Why does everyone give Acelino Freitas so much **** for quitting..

    Why?

It's not like he even had a chance of winning, if he had continued, Corrales may have ended his career...

I think not continuing was a good choice....why?

so he can live to fight another day....from what I remember, Alexis Arguello basically "quit" against Aaron Pryor in the rematch..

You guys are to harsh on this guy.(freitas)

NO idea, I personally don't. He fought the wrong fight and got tired. That was the bottom line. Its easy for someone outside the ring to point fingers and laugh when a boxer quits in the ring or doesn't want to continue, but the reality is boxers are real people. They value their lives just like we do and they have familes to come back home to. Thats why I was mad when a certain person here kept making a thread about Tszyu quiting. Whats the big deal, if your done your done. Its obvious not many people have had fights before. In boxing perfection is expected if your a top fighter. Even 1 loss and your going to get bashed, now even if your undefeated your going to get bashed anyway. Give boxers a break, they have real lives too, and I'm sure they don't care about your opinions of them quiting.

It's bs how people hate on fighters for quitting. Everyone is like R.I.P Levander Johnson, he was a true champion and all that ****. If he quit a couple of rounds earlier he would still be alive but those same people would be saying "**** Levander Johnson, he's a *****". I'm sure if Levander had the choice he would have quit like Freitas, Tszyu, etc, rather than end up how he did.

The man was fighting a pretty darn good fight in my opinion and up until the point where Corrales started knocking him down he was winning. Anyway

You have two schools of thought when it comes to quitting, some say quitting is inexcusable no matter what, guys like Teddy Atlas and Diego Corrales(ironically enough), subscribe to this school.

Then on the other hand you have got guys who say quitting is fine when you know you have had enough, me personally I fall into this category. Where is it written down that all boxers have to be Gattis or Holyfields and fight like that. Look at Leavnder Johnson, God rest his soul, he didn't want to quit but sadly it probably would have saved his life if he had quit earlier.

Anybody who steps through the ropes will have to determine themselves when hey have had enough, thats why I get mad when boxing writers like Frank Lotierzo say crap like Mike Tyson is a quitter. Excuse me who the hell are you Mr. Lotierzo? What have you done that warrants your critism of someone who has more guts then you'll ever have.

So to get back to the subject, I have no problem with Freitas quitting.

You 3 are people that respect fighters...

That's good to hear from you 3!

If Freitas never quit, he may have ended up like Meldrick Taylor, Holyfield, Johnson, etc.

When he quit, now we can still see big fights from Freitas..

Thanx tha Greatest, its easy for people to say "Hes a quitter!" or "He has no heart!" but they ain't the ones gettin punched in the face and body. And most likely people who call fighters *****s or bitches or any other nonsense are in fact *****s and bitches themselves.

well personally i loved the way he fought diego in the early rounds: quick and powerful... but you can't blame haters for being so rude on the guy... when i saw his record and how he played diego (before he quit), i told myself that i have found a new favorite fighter... but it was disappointing to see him quit though... i can see your point on quitting before he got severely destroyed by diego... but if you come to think of it, where is he now??? after the fight, he opted for fights so much less than his caliber... come on, he shoud at least try to bounce back into the thick of things... diego is not the only big tym lightweight now so maybe he can fight a lot better guys and get the respect he deserves... diego and castillo are not on the equation though
