i'll wait until after the ponce fight to make an official pick. i'm interested to see how gamboa does with a southpaw. donaire has shown some pretty solid skills out of the southpaw stance when he uses it. gamboa can be pretty reckless at times, i could see donaire's check hook from either stance coming into play
I have no pick I just want to see it. Damn that is a good. I wonder what Gamboa looks like focused for 12 rounds because a very good and possibly great fighter is in front of him.
Who knows how long Gamboa will stay at 126 for. I can see him moving up in weight real soon.
If Gamboa beats Ponce De Leon (which he should), there will be few fighters left at 126 to test himself against. Yuri will probably take on Lopez, if he gets past Salido...but that could be it. It's certainly possible that if Donaire moves directly to FW, as they're indicating, Gamboa will wait for him. Yuri might take on, say, Mikey Garcia in the meantime. Or, Gamboa could drop down in weight if he's already moved up to 130. It's always about the money. If the powers-that-be think Gamboa-Donaire would bring the moolah, it'll happen. Lots of "ifs"....
I don't know, my mind has changed about this fight over the past few months
I will take Donaire...WHY? Because for a guy that had a LEGENDARY Amateur Career...Gambioa makes A LOT OF MISTAKES and have a lot of HOLES IN HIS STYLE especially defensively
Holes that someone like Donaire can surely EXPLOIT! can he really afford to keep his hands down against another fighter with good hand speed? things are different when your not the CLEAR CUT fastest/most athletic guy in the ring
while Gamboa will probably have the Speed Advantage over Donaire, it is not a HUGE GAP or HUGE DIFFERENCE in Speed
not just Donaire though, I think Gary Russell Jr in another year or so, Mikey Garcia and a few others, I think those young fighters are going to give him problems as well, it just depends on who gets to him first!
Gamboa is a BEAST...but he is not unbeatable, once again fans see a few KO's and they start to OVERRATED A FIGHTER A LITTLE
