Anyone that says a fighter has 0 chance inside the boxing ring has no idea what he's talking about. Remember Buster?

I think Gamboa is going to take this comfortably, first trying for the quick KO, then adjusting and boxing in&out, using his natural speed/power, but, let's not pretend PDL isn't packing a punch and Gamboas defense isn't subpar.

I really don't believe Gamboa's defense is bad. Yuri just opens up too much sometimes, gets carried away. It's his aggressive approach. However, I agree precisely with everything else you wrote. I've been saying something to this effect for some time.

I consider PDL a live underdog -- I expect him to lose but if he's really 'on' and Gamboa has somewhat of an off night, he could pull off an upset -- otherwise Gamboa has more tools and should win, probably by a stoppage

But he has actually improved his defense since then and is trying to box more instead of rushing in which is why he was koed.

Yes, this exactly. I said subpar (in the classic defintion of the word - Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance) only because, to me, he truly embodies the whole 'the best defense is a good offense' to the core. And really, in a boxing career, at times, only thing it takes is one good punch.

In fact, in the back of my mind I think he's just laying traps by lowering his guard most of the time to let the opponent try and 'get in'. He just may be that confident, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

But who can blame him? He has the gift, and the way it's working for him, he should keep at it.

I agree with your analysis, especially with the bold. Gamboa's style is strictly geared to taking advantage of his natural gifts. Yuri can't fight that way forever. Father Time has a cruel way of creeping up on a fighter and making him old overnight. Unless Gamboa can adapt, he'll pay one day for his over-dependence on offense. But that day is not yet here. "El Ciclon" probably has a few short years to provide us with some electrifying performances.

never count the mexican underdog out! look at what happened to lopez, lemieux, and vasquez jr for example.

should be a great fight though, ponce comes to fight. i just think gamboa will be too much for him. can't wait
ponce won't stand a chance because just like many other mexican fighters the game plan goes out of the door when matched with much greater speed. ponce will just start running on the outside & he'll get ko'd for trying to box with the boxer.......
