  • overrated?

I was just wondering what exactly is meant when someone is "overrated". I see alot of posters on here saying this/that guy is overrated. It is mostly seen when talking about Mike Tyson. He fought and beat the best fighters that were available, although his early opponents were definitely "hand picked", that was not all he fought. I also see the term when people dicuss Roy Jones Jr.

The reason why some ppl consider fighters like tyson or rjj overrated is b/c they don't like them. IMO overrated means that you are considered the best just by how many wins you have instead of who you fought for those wins. If you haven't fought anyone above b level competition and consider yourself p4p the best then your overrated IMO.

Who did Tyson beat that was so great? An old Larry Holmes? Bloated and old Michael Spinks?

Lewis destroyed Him. Holyfield destroyed him. Douglas....Williams....and the list goes on. Early on, Tyson was great, but after D'Amato died, he went downhill.

Spinks was undefeated at the time. Tyson was force. He was never
the same after D'Amato's death. I don't care for the guy, but if
he had a stable mind he could've been the greatest.

i dont like people who totally discredit tyson

i admit im a fan, but he truely was a great boxer and if it wasnt for his mental state he cudve belonged up their with ali robinsin. he is one level behind those 2legends!

after the sphinx fight, it went downhill, and even after dat he gave people trouble!

da sphinx fight and b4 is wa u shud judge tyson for- a fast hard hittting commited boxer! one of THE best!

I never said he beat anyone who was great. I said he fought the best availble competition at the time he fought (Pre Douglas). Even after Douglas he fought some decent comp. up until he went the Indiana Youth Center,(not what I would call prison). I think Lewis gets a little too much credit for his win over Tyson. Do you think that Lewis would have done that to a Pre-Douglas Tyson? I can't say either way.
