As for the German marks you mention, about that came about because of the enormous reparations Germany had to pay after WW1 as well as a completel collapse of their economy and MAINLY, that the Government began printing as much money as they needed even though they knew they had no solid economic basis for it. Yes, they eventually used wheelbarrows to bring enough Deutsche Marks to go shopping. I know this well.

After WW1 my Family Business, as a business decision, invested in 25,000 Pounds worth of German marks. They must have been crazy. We stil have the certficate as a collectors curio.
