For all of the fifteen completed minutes of action, fans in the Casino and watching on television got their money’s worth.

Zaveck, of Slovenia and fighting out of Germany, suffered the first stoppage loss of his career and first defeat of any kind since a debatable split decision defeat on the road in 2008. Berto captures his second major title at 147 lbs. just one contest after losing a WBC belt in April. Berto weighed in at a fit 146 ¾, Zaveck lighter at 146 ½.

Berto, who entered the ring with Spock’s Mirror Universe goatee, came out with bad intentions in an early flurry but it was Zaveck who was landing, his overhand right shaking Berto a couple of times before a minute was gone. Berto responded with a vicious combination to the ribs of Zaveck, slipping his shots beneath the high guard of the titlist. Zaveck responded to the body of Berto and, in a series of shots, was able to work a left hook around the guard of Berto. Berto landed his own straight right to the face. Both men landed hard in the final ten seconds, a Zaveck left hook sending a shake through Berto, Berto firing back with another combination to the body. [Click Here To Read More]
I smell a a Berto/Ortiz rematch. I want Ortiz to beat Mayweather, but realistically, after Mayweather it will take a rematch win over Berto +, in order to validate Vics position at welter as well as validate Mayweather's probable win over him.

Good fight. Zaveck landed more shots, but Berto landed the more telling punches (those uppercuts were beastly), evidenced by the cuts above both of Zaveck's eyes. Although the stoppage kind of ruined the excitement for me, things like that are part of boxing. I was kind of hoping for another Berto-Collazo or Gatti-Ward, with both fighters going toe-to-toe for twelve rounds. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch of this fight. God knows Zaveck deserves one. I thought Zaveck was just another bum, but I'm mistaken.

If the - probably accidental - headbut would not happen, Zaveck would have this fight in the next three or four rounds. I have nothing against Berto, but frankly, if this is the best that he can do, he should of never returned into boxing.

I realy hope, that Zaveck gets a rematch in the future - even though, realistically, i doubt it. If not, i at least hope for another chance for Zaveck, becouse everyone who knows anything about boxing, saw that he was a better figther in this fight. It was his plan to open up in the second half of the fight and i realy think, that this fight would of gone to him.

Zaveck, did not deserve this. It was him who wanted Berto and not the opposite, in case anyone thinks so. It was him who came all the way from Slovenia to prove himself and he has done it. However, this is the sport - anything can happen.

I watched the fight and Zaveck did good but lets keep it all the way real. Andre Berto was busting his face up with punches. Wasn't no sign of headbutts. Jan got beat. I wouldn't mind seeing Zaveck in a rematch with Berto but same outcome in my opinion with Berto winning. Jan doesn't have the power to keep Berto humble and at bay like Ortiz did.

Wasn't no headbutts that did the damage to Zaveck face. It was done by the accumulation of Berto landing power shots on his face. You could see throughout the fight how the mouse formed and as Berto kept hitting him in his grill how it swelled and opened up. Same thing was happening to his other eye. Zaveck did well but Berto probably would have knocked him out after more rounds. Berto rocked Jan in the 5 to end the round. Good stoppage by his corner because they knew if he went back out that the damage would have been greater. Berto earned that win. Jan Zaveck is a good fighter but if he had a lil more power to put on them punches then it could have been a whole different fight with Berto getting stopped. Jan is a solid fighter. Why should Berto's performance make him not return to boxing? Your giving Jan props for losing but not Berto for winning? Some of you guys posting on here be bugging. Berto needs to work on his stamina big time though.

You might want to take a look at my signature or a few threads with the analysis of the headbut on this forum, then. No offence towards you though, i did not see it before either.

Zaveck of course was getting some damage from Berto's punches, but nowhere close enough, for his face to become a bloody mess in one minute of one round. As i said, the headbut was probably accidental, but this is boxing, i guess.

Hopefully, Zaveck gets at least another chance, if not a rematch in the future.

I saw it on the other thread you posted on. Still wondering why Zaveck didn't complain to keep Berto humble with his head.

Becouse he is a fair and big hearted fighter, who did not came in the USA to cause drama or search for excuses. He would of never done it, even if he would get robbed on the scorecards at the end of the match.

He must be one of the most polite boxers, that i personally have ever seen or met. It may not be as interesting as litteraly spitting in your opponent's face at the weigh-in's, not giving your opponent a hand on the start of the round or saying how you will kill your opponent in the ring, but it shows what kind of a person Zaveck is. It is a shame that it has ended up like that, but i bet that Zaveck's time is still to come.
