Arum's talking out his ass. cuban and cuban americans are as proud as puerto ricans or mexicans americans. arum's deal is he likes to water down the **** outta everything because he thinks that's how he'll make the most money. they're aren't many fighters out there who have a brighter future than gamboa. you want to know how make him a bigger star? have him open for your biggest star you ****ing dinosaur.

If that's the case, I would have to disagree. Celia Cruz was black and everybody loved her. It didn't matter if you were Mexican, Cuban, or Argentine, everybody loved Celia!!!
all arum's saying is that boxing doesn't really appeal to cuban americans.... sounds about right since there's no such thing as a cuban fan base for boxing....

How can the "best" boxing promotor be that dumb... It has nothing to do with cubans not supporting cuban boxers. It's only that there's not many cubans outside Cuba and cubans from the island are not allowed to watch international TV. So yeah, you can't build a Cuban fanbase, but it has nothing to do with his weak ass analysis.

Fact is, he's just giving excuses because he never wanted Gamboa in the first place. He only signed him because he wanted to control his career and give an "enemy" for his cash cow juanma. That's why he does nothing to bring Gamboa bug fights. That's why you never hear anything about Gamboa/his dates/his opponents, while you know Juanma's next three opponents and dates 1 year in advance, with press conferences every week, etc. Arum is a lazy mother***er, he wanted a Cotto II with Juanma.... Now that his poor child juanma has lost all his credibility, he'll probably start trying to really build Gamboa....... or keep hiding him by not allowing him to go in higher divisions and keep him around in order to make him an "enemy" of Donaire.

To all you sensitive ones, Arum hit the nail right on the head. It may be a sad reality, but it is a reality to say the least! To defect from Cuba you needed money and like in the good ole USA and pretty much over 72% plus of the world, there are color barriers in every culture. Most cultures ignorantly thinking white is of supremacy and usually the color that makes the money.

Argue all you want, cry all you want, but it's the truth. That is why I commend Black- Cuban The Kid Chocolate Peter Quillin. He was raised by his black american mother and yet cherishes his Cuban ancestry. He is learning Spanish, has visited Cuba and has improved his relationship with his once estranged Cuban born father. He wears the Cuban flag usually in his fights and is very pro Cubano although it does not help market him at all!

if you can take it and dish it back at the upper level of competition you'll draw the interest.

True, but from a marketability perspective Arum is right on this one.

Yeah, it has to do with having a great fighter with no ethnic base, which is traditionally how you market a fighter in America. DiBella has the same problem with Martinez. Talented, exciting, good looking guy, but he has no ethnic base to call on for support like Puerto Ricans/Mexican/Polish/Irish, ect fighters in America do because he's Argentine.
