Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on PPV, Sky, Future of British Boxing

When analysing Sky’s resolution to ditch PPVs for the time being some asked if Frank Warren’s decision to move Amir Khan over to Sky PPV in 2008 started the whole train wreck in motion. Warren, though, has put on big events since losing Khan in 2010: Kevin Mitchell versus Michael Katsidis at Upton Park, ‘The Magnificent Seven’, ‘Return Of The Magnificent Seven’ and May’s O2 Arena bill. Some grumbled about these PPV shows, however there was many a fan that felt they represented value for money, especially in contrast to Primetime’s murky broadcasts and Sky’s recent heavyweight showcases.

Good article but he contradicted himself a bit in the end there. It *IS* a hard sport to deal with and I can understand why broadcasters get fed up with negotiations that go beyond the tedious. This is a good decision from Sky. Make fighters prove themselves and show willingness to fight the best and then bring back PPV.

Personally I think the sport's on its last legs, but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

There is no rival to sky in the UK. No competition whatsoever. Sky can do what they like and boxing has to lump it and swallow it's pride.

The Sky/ Matchroom relationship is very much similar to the HBO/ Golden Boy relationship in the states. The unfortunate thing for Frank is that he doesn't have a 'Showtime' to turn to.

            Boring & Mismatches

Certainly boring & mismatches are getting very difficult to sell. Boxing needs excitement and interesting match -ups.
