  • Comments Thread For: Sky Dropping PPVs: Good or Bad For Boxing? - Part 1

When news filtered through to me back in mid-May that Sky were planning to pull the plug on boxing PPVs after suffering a mixed year with the platform it sparked a muddle of emotions. Thoughts of saving PPV money over the course of the season were balanced by fears of the knock-on impact. Long seen as a necessary evil, PPV events have been a fixture since fight fans opened the floodgates by digging deep for Frank Bruno’s WBC heavyweight title defence against Mike Tyson in 1996 and have thrown up some great nights of action.

Very good... make them pay for the fights like everyone else.

    Very happy about this.

i don't mind sky not putting on ppv events... but they should still be fighting to keep the big vegas showdowns on the network....

losing out on mayweather v. ortiz which is an awesome bill was a huge dissapointment, i just hope this isn't a sign on things to come....

i don't want to pay to see the best fights scheduled in the u.s

personally i think sky not picking up the big US fights for their subscription viewers is a bad sign of whats ahead. if goldenboy are pissed with sky over the khan vs irish guy being removed from ppv then that might spell problems for the sky sports boxing fans aswell.

Also, there isnt really a huge british PPV fighter out there at the min. so we shouldnt be getting any PPV's anyway.

looking at whats currently scheduled to be on sky, there isnt too much to get excited about. we got the domestic scraps which i will watch if im in but wont prioritise. then we got vitali vs adamek which is ok but if im honest im not arsed about that fight. martinez vs barker isnt really a fight to look forward to, and we get the super six final. interestingly tho, it says TBC for that fight!

so all in all sky need to pick it up. id of paid for a mayweather or pacquiao etc etc on ppv if it meant that sky would get serious with their boxing.

pretty much any fight that is on HBO should be on sky, and id pay ppv for the majority.
