Dawson has looked like **** in his last two fights, after having some problems with Glen.

Hopkins should have no problem with him.

I wouldn't mind seeing him defend his Title against Zolte Erdei and give him his first loss. A symbolic win.

B-Hop is a Historian and probably knows that Erdei is the Lineal Champ, having never lost since he beat the guy who beat Darius M.

IF, IF, IF he beats Dawson he should retire on top. Becoming the oldest man ever to win Fighter of the Year (which he most certainly would get), 10 years after he got it last. That would be phenomenal.

Hopkins is after the dollars. Dollars first, legacy second. He won't unify the LHW division, no money there. He fights Dawson because he is forced to do it. Hopkins wants Bute because that's where the money lies.

And if Hopkins does move up to HW, it will be, just like Roy Jones, to pick a paper title, say the Povetkin - Chagaev winner. No Klitschko for sure, and I don't blame him.

              That's a fair statement.

But it's also not just the money, IMO he is entitled to cherrypick at his age. If twenty-something year olds can milk their records and their Titles for longevity, then so can a 46 year old guy.

I also agree on him being forced to face Dawson statement. Although I would rephrase it slightly. He isn't forced, it's his responsibility to face him as a Champion now.

Back when Dawson was undefeated and everyone called for a Hopkins-Dawson fight, I used to say - Why does Dawson want Hopkins so badly? Hopkins isn't even the champion, B-Hop isn't holding him up or the Light-Heavyweight Division. Well, now he is. He is the champ, he could either vacate or do the responsible thing and face the Undisputed # 1 Contender. And he is.

              Props to Hopkins.

well Hopkins had beaten the man (Tarver) who had beaten the man (Jones), so I would say Hopkins was the real champion, and he did have the Ring title, so Dawson going after him was the right thing to do

Hopkins doesn't vacate because, as he has said himself, he wants to emulate Archie Moore who was still defending his LHW title while he was older than Hopkins is now

also, as you said, Dawson is probably the best contender out there although there is a case for Cloud, and avoiding this fight for a second time wouldn't have been good for his reputation, no matter the reasons (money, the right to cherrypick at his adavanced age, etc.)

Hopkins is having perhaps the best moments of his whole career, best of luck to him in his pursue of big bucks and new records

He would probably love a big money rematch with Calzage...and given Calzage's retirement inactivity and substance abuse he might pull it off this time. He could challenge Tarver for the CW title...althought Tarver wouldn't have a chance he would likely accept what would be his best available current payday...but Martinez at 175 lbs would be really interesting. I say he has a 50/50 chance against Dawson...providing he brings his A game. He has been very active lately and was in great shape for Pascal 2 so maybe a better than 50/50 chance against Dawson.
