zavec did some quality sparring for the berto fight, among those also with the turk selcuk aydin, who told zavec a recipe to beat berto. in the club base in magdeburg, germany, the slovenian ace tested his preparedness in the ring also with the polish welter rafal jackiewicz.
the turk is known to be a master of dirty moves. 'he isn't quite a person of my taste when i saw him boxing, he appeared to me as a dirty, unfair boxer. which he confirmed during sparring', his experience with the turk describes zavec. but adds: 'he does have a great taste for fighting. but the difference between us was quite significant, since he currently isn't as prepared as i am.'
zavec's conditioning trainer tomi jagarinec was also fascinated by the turkish 'butcher'.
'he is truely a dirty boxer, who also advised zavec how to beat berto. with a punch in the 'nape'!'
the ses boxing club has also brought in sparring partners whose style resembled berto's. aydin's contribution was, according to jagarinec, a 'poisonous' right hand.
'aydin is a good boxer with a great right hand, which zavec controlled very well.'
if aydin showed some moves unworthy of a sportsman, it was completely different with jackiewicz, the only boxer who has beaten zavec.
'for me, zavec is still the biggest 'gentleman' in boxing.' and jackiewicz proved to be a similar gentleman. but maybe also because he saw the first day, that he's got no chances against zavec.' spoke jagarinec about the magdeburg camp.
about the US preparations he said 'we've been taking the time difference into consideration for a while now, and we went to the US soon enough that there shouldn't be any problems. we won't be taking any risks with food either. zavec will be eating only light meals and we took everything with us, so he doesn't have to 'sin' himself with american goodies.'
until the 3rd september zavec will be doing some sparring with colombian joel julio, and his club mate georgian sergei vartanov. there will also be a standard fight with the weight. 'currently i have around 154 pounds, before the trainings 159, and after 154-156,' said zavec.
