    Has Boxing Evolved?

I see how many people put fantasy matchups such as Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Bernard Hopkins or Rocky Marciano vs. Mike Tyson.

Can we honestly say that past fighters would stand a chance with fighters of today?

You must remember that in the past boxing was not a full time job. Sugar Ray would fight 2 fights in a week and then go to work. Now a days fighters focus solely on their training since they are paid up front and can focus on fighting. Also new technology has helped athletes today develope better physically since we understand the human body better today.

So if Rocky Marciano or Sugar Ray Robinson would in fact easly handle the top fighters of today, would that mean that boxing is the only sport that has no evolved??

Anybody can easly know that a Johhny Unitas, Walter Payton or Babe Rith would not have had the great carrer they had if they faced todays super human athletes using the same training and methods of the past.

    So has boxing evolved?

It's beginning to evolve, fighters only fighting twice a year rather than twice a week etc. And trainers using science to help stamina (getting rid of long distance running and replacing with multiple sprints etc), and more weight training and stuff.

But you look at Mike Tyson in his prime, his training was old school and his diet was old school. There was nothing different between what Tyson did and what they did in the 1920's because Cus was from the 1920's. Look at Roy Jones Jr's routine before he started using weights (weights which decreased his sharpness), his routine was just old school just like they'd use in the old days and his diet was just normal (no supplements).

thats tru, but the diet has changed dramatically. Fighters of old would eat the wrong foods by ignorance.
