Tyson. Remember everyone there was a time when Bo Jackson was bigger than MJ. And also back then the HWT champ of the world still meant something.

Anyone remember the ESPN commerciqal where the guy says: To most people in the world Jordan is a small country in the middle east.

I Still have to disagree and say jordan.

Jordan was featured in Numerous Music Videos, Commercials (most of them in the late 80's early 90's with sp1ke lee), apparel endorsed by celebrities, Featured with numerous cartoon characters (namely bugs bunny) even before space jam the movie, products endorsed on the silver screen, seen in several sitcoms, was a major spokesman for Coca-Cola, Mcdonalds, Chevrolet, Gatorade, flintstones kids vitamins, seen on wheaties boxes, etc....

He's the guy most responsible for basketball becoming a more international game.

I say Tyson, fighters were scared of him, watch some old fights and look at them, they just don't want to be in that ring once they have taste the first punch. Outside the USA, Tyson was still scary, even for someone who didn't know anything about boxing. For someone who doesn't like basketball and is not an American, Jordan was not as big as Tyson.

It's actually very close. Both Tyson and Jordan are global stars and two of the most famous athletes ever. People who don't know anything about basketball and boxing still know about Tyson and Jordan. It's impossible to say who was more famous because they were on the same level.

True but Tyson was earning $100 mil a year. Jordan is a global icon no question. But the HWT champion was a whole other level back then.

Jordan's fame and popularity is largely limited to North America. He may have had more endorsement deals than Tyson,or starred in more American commercials/adverts,but it was always limited to that part of the world, for the most part.

People are crazy, at there prime peak of there careers, Tyson was idolized throughout the world, it wasnt til 90 something and a few shoes in Jordan started garnering idol status.... From 88-94 if the two where seen together Tyson would get more clout... Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the 'planet'....... Gettin keys to citys in japan, russia etc...
