Golden Boy Promotions is reporting that Robert Guerrero has injured his left shoulder in sparring and will be unable to fight as scheduled on August 27th, against Marcos Maidana.
Richard Schaefer, CEO of GBP reported today during the media conference call for the fight that the fight is officially cancelled, as is the card itself.
Schaefer reports they are looking into rescheduling options for the other fighters including Maidana, however Schaefer speculates that Guerrero could be on the shelf for a while and that Maidana might have to fight somebody else, and not wait for Guerrero. According to Schaefer, it sounds like a "severe" injury to Guerrero.
Apparently, Guerrero injured shoulder yesterday in sparring, it went numb on him, and he could not move it. It did not get better overnight, and it's reported that he can't move it.
A possible torn rotator cuff is being speculated.
An MRI is scheduled for today.
