A lot of ref's would have stopped Bute even before he went down. He was totally out on his feet. And that happened even though the referee gave Bute all the help he could by stepping in the way of Andrade several times when he separated them from a clinch.
As for the KD, well the Richard Steele that stopped Meldrick Taylor would have stopped Bute. He could barely stand.
I may have agreed with you about the ref stopping the fight because Bute was out on his feet. However, I believe he was out of gas and not out on his feet because of Andrade hitting him. In my opinion that makes a world of difference. And as far as the ref helping Bute by breaking them up I totally disagree. Because, if anything Bute was trying to clinch and Andrade needed room to punch and the ref gave him that room every time he broke the clinch up, and eventually he knocked Bute down. And as far as comparing the Bute-Andrade fight to the Taylor-Chavez fight, in my opinion you can't for several reasons. The biggest reason is when the ref asked Bute to respond he did and raised his gloves to him. When Steele asked Taylor to respond Meldrick simply starred off into space and never responded. Plus, when Steele stopped the fight I believe there was still 5 to 10 seconds left in the round and it is possible Meldrick could have taken more shots. And because Bute went down with only 4 seconds left in the fight and he was up at about the count of 8 he would have never taken another shot simply because the fight was already over by 4 seconds.
Wow, just hit by a tremor here on the East coast first in my life time and it was weird.

Steele stopped the fight with 2 seconds to go. Not that the time is relevant. The question is if the fighter is ready or not before the count of ten.
Bute-Andrade: Below is a fairly bad vid as I cannot find a proper one, but here you can see how the ref obstructs Andrade and helps Bute. Watch at the 30 sec. mark how he referee goes into Andrade's path so he cannot continue his assault on a Bute who's out on his feet.

I will have to admit it had been years since I had watched the Taylor-Chavez fight. So, I re-watched the last round, and guess what? There were clearly five seconds left in the fight when Steele stopped the fight. Plus, Chavez was cleaning Meldrick's clock in the last round. Whereas, and I will say it again, Bute was more so gassed than getting clocked by Andrade. And to top it off Larry Merchant was stating that all Meldrick had to do was beat the count, which he did, to win the fight. Just as Bute had to beat the count which he also clearly did and there was no time left in the fight. So,why you would state that the time was irrelevant is beyond me?
With that said, Taylor clearly beat the count. However, he also never responded to Steele when asked to do so. And clearly there were five seconds still left in the fight. Whereas, Bute would have beaten the original count of ten, because he was up at eight. And he also clearly held his gloves up when the ref asked him to and the bell rang fight over. And still no one knows for sure how far Andrade was actually out of his corner.
As far as the ref stepping in between the fighters at the 30 second mark. If you watch closely he rubs the canvas with his foot possibly because he slipped a little. In closing I will say to the fans out there that believe that Taylor was robbed and then claim that Andrade was also robbed are in my opinion just Bute haters. So, I have to ask you BattlingNelson do you believe Meldrick was robbed?

No. Steele made the correct decision IMO.
Did you notice how the referee obstructed Andrade?
Bute has legit skills. He sets that uppercut so his opponents walks into it. Johnson has his hands full getting thru those conterpunches as Bute backs up or departs on an angle
