Maybe Ali is, but Joe Louis isn't for sure. The average boxing fan will say Ali is the best heavy ever, when Louis is definitely. Louis underrated.

None of these fighters are over rated. Not in their time. Not in their era.

In comparison to today's fighters, there were far more people boxing then than there are now. Today's economy and civil rights have given more people more career opportunities.

Why bring this up? Well, the competition to get to the top level was much greater in their time than it is now. There are a lot less fighters competiting in the top level today.

      It's something to think about.

        I agree,

I think Ali was heavily overated and Louis was slighty underated.

I would have to say no.

Both were excellent fighters who reined as champions for long times.

Thank you. Pretenders do not stay at the top for very long. You all have seen this proven too often.

maybe louis was a little. ali is probably a little underrated 'cause he could have done better if he had fought from 1967-1970.

i dont think either are overrated. they both had major impacts on boxing and society at large. they were great boxers and very influential men.

because most only recognizes him for beating foreman and fighting frazier, both he fought after his prime. 1967-1970 would have really been ali's prime, cause he would have been as strong as he was in 1971, and as fast as he was in 1967. so you combine that and you've got a physical freak of nature! so ali had the physical gifts to be even better than people think. nobody would beat him. it would have been a carbon copy of louis' title reign, maybe even longer! that is pretty scary!

I don't think 68-3 record is overrated. I also don't think beating the best heavyweights in what is considered the best heavyweight era is overrated.
