Don't Blame MARES... If The Ref Allows It, I'm ****Punching ALL NIGHT!!

There is a referee in the ring for a reason. Blame the official; don't blame the combatant. I have NO PROBLEM with what Mares did.

As a combatant or athlete, I'm going to do what the referee allows me to.

Bernard Hopkins uses dirty tricks (one-two-head-push), Floyd Mayweather uses dirty trick (nice elbow), Tito Trinidad's punches wandered low. Miguel Cotto would low-blow whenever he was buzzed. Evander Holyfield used his head as a weapon.

BUT IT IS THE REF'S JOB TO CONTROL, MONITOR AND GOVERN THOSE ACTIONS. If the ref isn't stopping me, I'm doing it . All night. You adjust to the way the ref is calling the fight/game.

If the ump isn't calling the strike on the outside part of the plate, I'm not swinging at that pitch.

If the ref is allowing me to take a "Patrick Ewing" third step when driving to the basket, I'm going to keep doing it.

The only example of Cotto throwing low when he was buzzed was the 1st round against Judah...and I implore anyone to look again, that punch really was right on the belt line.

But I 100% agree with your general point. As a combatant I am going to be as effective as possible within the rules...and the referee is the one who sets those rules in the middle of the fight. If he's not calling low blows I'm going to be less careful with my body shots...if he enforces it like he should, I'm going to be more careful.

This was ALL on Mora, not Mares.

That is how the cookie crumbles this isn't ballet~, the ref is an important guy how he sees the fight plays a huge role so you have to go with his flow.

It usually isn't a factor most people consider, so it is surprise and people generally don't like surprises like this so lots of blame gets thrown around.

Me too he is in there to win not obey rules and be squeaky clean but him saying he never went low after the fights over is bs.

But , realistically, what do you want him to say?

"Yes, Jim, I was trying to give him a rough vasectomy"

Well, I guess he could have said "it was a rough fight. He was pushing my head down and it seemed some punches were lower than I intended."

So, basically the Mares did about 15 INTENTIONAL low blows to win the fight.

            GOT IT!

Mares will never win a clean fight especially in a championship level match.

Guy is a cheater and that is how he made his career from the very beginning.

It was a fight between Ippo and some trash talking guy (a la Duckweather style). Only in the Japanese manga, the trash talker isn't famous and the only way to win the fight is if he talk smack about Ippo.

Also, there are a lot of similarities between Pacquiao and Duckweather in this arc.

The trash talker going down the weight class to fight Ippo. Similar to how Pacquiao fights boxers going down the weight.

The trash talker only getting attention when he talks badly about Ippo. Same as Duckweather getting on the news by just mentioning Pacquiao's name with PED accusations and racist attacks on him.

It was a good arc to read. Also, Ippo finished the guy in one punch KO another homage to Pacquiao's KO power that he will bestow to Duckweather if they ever enter the squared ring together.

                Peace out.

NOTE: The "MAYWEATHER" sign is a complete touch based by the author towards the boxing community and to its fans. You know that mangas have a hard time mentioning real people and real products for fear of repercussions you can get sued for malicious use or unauthorized usage.

But I'm guessing the author just didn't get and let it go and just wrote "MAYWEATHER." I am a huge boxing fan and I notice stuff especially related to boxing when a famous person mention it passing by.

Do you know what is illegal inside the ring? What the ref tells you is illegal. The ref is the arbiter of the rules inside the ropes.

                  This is boxing, not ballet.

I betcha that Abner would have been much tighter with his punches after a point deduction.

                    Agreed.

Agbeko was at a decisive disadvantage because of what the Ref, by his inactions, defined as legal in that ring.

This is a fight after all and it falls on Agbeko to protect himself. If after bringing it to Moras attention should there be no correction made it falls on Agbeko to return the favor. It is worth losing a point early than going through 12rds handicapped and zapped of energy (and possibly injury) as a result of multiple undeterred low blows.
