Why do people always call for a a REMATCH when the fight has been patently unfair and a bad decision given.?? The loss still remains on the fighter's record.

totally agree that the fight should be declared a NO-CONTEST and an immediate rematch mandated before Mares is allowed to fight anyone else -- and with a truly impatial ref that won't enable Mares to wing shots below the belt whenever he feels like it

How is Mares better than Agbeko?

The guy destroyed the man's "family ***els" and basically made him weak.

Mares and Golden Boy Promotions don't want any rematch with Agbeko because they know with a fair referee and neutral judges he would win over them.

I totally didn't appreciate the cheating of Mares but it's up to the referee to take control and make it a fair fight. The ref was awful.

Mora should be banned from officiating matches for life. It is not even just about him ignoring the low blows or getting it wrong, it was painfully obvious he was paid off to make sure he helped Mares win by any means he could. Mora even called 2 bogus knockdowns and those were both obviously and slip and a low blow. He is a real POS and I hope he never referees again. F**king Golden Boy is a joke. Mares is talented and probably would have gotten the win anyway but this is a travesty. He's got skills but he barely won in his bouts against Vic and King King and he clipped good in both matches. Not much else out there for Mares though, he couldn't beat Donaire if he had 3 arms and 3 fists so.

There have been worse decisions, but the referee defending his "knockdown" after watching Agbeko getting hit in the middle of the cup towards the end of the fight was hilarious. Sure, Mares may win a few fights, but at some point a ref will call it like he sees it and the low blows will derail this talented guy's career, and rightfully so. Besides which, Agbeko had pitifully few illegal tactics. Personally, if I were Agbeko, I would have punched Mares low immediately at the beginning of the fight in return to force the issue on the referee. This was a robbery of the first order and I suppose it doesn't matter, since it was in the lower weights. At higher weights, this ref would have been banned.

BTW I wouldn't have counted either of Mares' knockdowns. The hardest punch of the fight was Agbeko buckling Mares' knees. Here is a caution about a champion agreeing to a particular referee who was clearly paid off by Golden Boy Promotions. I hope Agbeko gets a rematch and, after he wins, is more careful in the future.
