PASCO -- Police in Pasco continue taking strides toward curbing gang activity, especially as a high profile rap group came to town.
Amid concerns about violence and even gang retaliation, police met the group at the Pasco airport Thursday night, making it very clear, if they broke the law, they would be going to jail.
Officers say the group has strong connections to a violent and well-known street gang in Los Angeles.
The group reportedly had plans for a concert in Pasco, but no permit for such an event. So, they met members at the airport to inform the group their concert would not be taking place.
Police say it's all part of their effort to come down hard on gang activity of any kind.
Summer time is typically the time for peak gang activity. Action News pulled the numbers for June and July from the last three years, and found overall calls for police during the summer months have dropped by more than a thousand.
And the decrease among gang-related crimes is even more apparent. In June and July, there were 12 ****s, robberies, and assaults in 2010, but just two in 2011.
Authorities say drive-by shootings, have especially dropped. And they add, that shutting the concert down is just one more weapon in their arsenal.
Action News also learned the group is also planning a concert in Yakima Friday night. And Pasco police have already alerted authorities there to be prepared with added security.
