WBC silver bantamweight champion Abner Mares fully believes that his fight with IBF champion Joseph Agbeko, scheduled for Saturday at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, will set the winner down as the best fighter in his division. Agbeko-Mares is the final fight in Showtime's bantamweight tournament. Participants Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez were eliminated and other boxers like Nonito Donaire, Fernando Montiel and Hozumi Hasegawa were not interested in participating.

I heard them both say that on the media conference call last week, I don't believe that either one of them really in their heart of hearts believes that. I believe they have been told that's the best way to answer that question.

Ok let me rephrase that, until the winner of the tourney and Donaire fight, then he'll be the best in the division....Agbeko got beat by perez who got mopped by darch who got ktfo by Donaire....i dont like triangle theories but i reaaly do believe in this one

The fight with the winner of Agbeko-Mares cant happen because of Showtime having an option of the winner. HBO owns Donaires fight.

With all do respect to Donaire, I mean the guy has immense talent... hes not in the tourney and the tourney has been competitive on a world class level. The only name on Donaires record since knocking out Vic in 07 is Montiel, and dont get me wrong what he did to Montiel is p4p stuff, I say a guy like Mares who this sunday I believe will have 3 consecutive wins over Perez (disputed robbery), Darchinyan, and Agbeko (Mares by UD) ... that right their is enough to say your the best in the division.

you forgot mthlane who is the current flw champ right now....mares has'nt really done anyhting to warrant him that claim...the bw tourney is not btween the bests, it's between the 4rth to 7th best....

are you really using the shotty rankings to back your claim, name a bantam weight that could possibly beats Mares excluding Donaire?? none.

Donaire vs Mares imo is the best at the weight and yes that includes an overrated Montiel.
