But you said you thought welterweight had more "great" fights ... can you name them?

I fired off a pretty long list of heavyweight fights (at least 50 or 60) off the top of my head (and have thought of a few more since then) ... can you name 40 or 50 great welterweight fights over the last 25 years?

I started you off with a list of fights I thought were great:

      Victor Ortiz-Andre Berto
      Oscar De La Hoya-Ike Quartey
Oscar De La Hoya-Shane Mosley 1
Simon Brown-Maurice Blocker ... do you have 45 or 46 more so we can compare ... since you thought welterweight had better fights than heavyweight?
No need to apologize, but thank you for doing so.

I'll start by quoting my original response to your first post on this thread:

I see you seconded some of my few choices. I haven't seen all these bouts. Some I saw when they happened and never watched them again. I'm going on memory here, so I might be off base, but a few of the fights you list didn't seem all that great to me: the Tyson-Ruddock fights and Lewis-Tyson. Also, I feel that the "quick knockouts," while memorable, don't qualify as great fights. Very nice list, though.

You've almost certainly watched more fights than I have; your recollection is clearly better. I simply can't rattle off dozens of fights off the top of my head. Therefore, I can't make my case with the kind of evidence you've provided. My statements are based on my general impressions. I think I've been clear on this.

Memory is notoriously unreliable. Perhaps you're right. Maybe the heavyweights do offer better overall fights. It's just that I don't recall it that way. Most of the times that I watch a heavyweight fight, I'm disgusted at the level of conditioning and sloppiness on display. On the whole, the lighter fighters tend to wage better battles. Again, that's my (strong) impression...and my opinion.

That said, I just got done watching Liakhovich-Brewster. You compared it to Berto-Ortiz, and you won't get an argument from me. Great fight.

Another fight I hadn't seen was Mesi-Jirov. The bout turned out to be surprisingly good. It was a spirited fight until the eighth round, when the steam started to let out. At that point it was pretty one-sided in "Baby" Joe's favor. However, in the ninth and tenth, Vasili managed to find dig deep and make the fight a nail-biter.

Thanks for sharing your list of heavyweight fights. I'll be watching (and re-watching) more of them.
