the people that want to do it are gonna do it anyway

might as well let them make more money and have refs watch out for them.

      while we watch

Bare Knuckle fighting might not end in BIG injuries in street fighting.

But Pro Boxers fighting with no gloves??? That would be deadly, multiple injuries, people going blind, deaths.

        Just not worth it.

          couple o'questions

how long can you be a professional bare-knuckle fighter? how many fights can you do in a year?

not that long and not that many for it to be a job worth taking. also imagine what disfigurement/disability you'd be having if you're a retired bare-knuckle fighter.

Boxing isnt about 2 drunkards from the 1930's clubbing each other for 50 rounds.

this is one of the most gross pieces of misinformation about bare knuckle boxing one can make.....

first of all, guys back then were HIGHLY skilled, and HIGHLY CONDITIONED. fighters back then knew a TON about anatomy, they had to protect their hands, therefore they had to know where to hit, how to hit, and how to prevent injury from striking.

I AM a bare knuckle boxing history BUFF, not to be saying I am this and all that, what I am saying is I have a pretty decent knowledge of bare knuckle boxing, I study and train frequently in it because for a FIST FIGHTING system, it's one of the better ones self defense, obviously there are far better techniques for self defense that are far more dangerous and murderous than a fist......

with that being said, fighters had to condition not only their bodies to take the punishment of not only fists, but elbows, kicks, headbutts, knees, you name it.......

knowing that a opponent can dip his head and you could EASILY break your fist, sprain you wrist, break a knuckle, jam a thumb or finger, etc, so many things can happen, but knowing that, fighters trained to be DEADLY ACCURATE.....

they didn't waste punches and there were no HAYMAKERS back then, what fight fans know as HOOKS today, they were completely different from what we know as HOOKS today...... the hook was really called a swing, and if it were thrown even remotely close as it is today, it wouldn't be thrown as wildly and with as much body weight behind it, and most likely they wouldn't be turing over their fist and flaring out their elbow.........

bare knuckle boxing is like TARGET GOLF, you place your shots, you don't go out swinging wildly like they do now, or like that drunken street fight you were talking about...... that never happened......

fighter were very calculated and patient, they had to be, to avoid unnecessary risk of injury, remember there was NOTHING BUT ******** GOING ON FOR THESE FIGHTS, there was money to be made outside the realm of the purse....... thats why they barely threw punches per round and although a round was constituted by someone being knocked down, sometimes they had 30+ minute rounds, drunken free swinging fools wouldn't last 3 minutes let alone 30+ minutes for one round......... let alone go for 75 rounds like a lot of those fights, that means between the two fighters, divide it up and or look at the stats but that means both or one of the guys hit the canvas ( so to speak ) that many times for a round to be called.......

you think unskilled, un-fight-educated guys could and would go through that? no, and although guys back then didn't look to be in shape, they were in solid shape, the right kind of shape for a fighter, and that is FIGHT CONDITIONED, their bodies could handle the punishment, and with the round structure and the lack of (SPORT ACTION ) of fighting, guys focused on being TOUGH and toughing up their tools.......

conditioning the hands like japanese karate man does, iron fist training, etc....

boxing really DUMBED down the fight game, the restricted SO MANY types of punches and techniques when they introduced gloves and then some years shortly after gloves and hand wraps, they took out even more punches and techniques, which is what we have left today in our sport.

real uppercuts, swings, backhands, double fist punches ( although i've seen augustus and a couple of other fighters use this one, even pacquiao ) dirty boxing, even fist and knuckle position of changed, not because of rules, only partially, but because of the physics of fighting with gloves on......

to be honest, although it's still the sweet science, gloves made it more of a brutes sport rather than the sweet science.... now with gloves, guys can just get into shape, be physically stronger than their opponents, take the risk of going out guns blazing and fight like those drunk guys you were talking about....... why?? because they have protection around their hands, unlike the bare knuckle guys who had t place shots to not hit bones, they had to place shots to stun a guy immediately, and it wasn't done with a big shot to the face, like a haymaker right hand, it was usually done with a open hand strike to the neck or throat, or finger dart to the eye, or an elbow to the head in close..... they stood straight up, but they fought any way but straight up.........

they didn't fight to win on points, they fought to stop the other guy, they had no point system, at least not like today, they had a few working ones that they tried to implement, but tradition wouldn't have it and it failed a few times before the "SPORT" of boxing came into effect.

when you fight with such exposed tools, such as bare knuckles, you make every punch count............. in the sport of boxing you count every punch....... big difference.......

not to be a **** but know WTF you're talking about before marginalizing history, it's players in history, and a whole generation of extraordinary men who paved the way for our great and beloved sport..........

anyone disagree with me and anything i've said in this post, I AM OPEN FOR DEBATE or conversation about it........

a good book for the beginner looking into bare knuckle boxing i would suggest Knuckles & Gloves by Bohun Lynch....... it's a solid read.

when is bobby gunn fighting this bare knuckle event? it says we can watch it free on ustream

Edit: BTW, for boxing fans to cry barbarism, think about it...a sport of punching where you wouldnt even be taking as much blows to the head is better than taking repeated blows to the head from padded gloves

this is just like when UFC coming big
