The misconception of Ali vs Foreman.

Too often I hear on these forums that Ali vs forman was a close fight, and more often that Ali was getting dominated, and pummeled from pillar to post by one of if not the biggest punchers in heavyweight history in Foreman, A number of these posters think that Ali was getting dominated and beat on while he lay helplessly on the ropes, and this simply is not the truth. Ali rolled much of foremans bombs, and in between countered the living hell out of forman from the second round on after Ali stayed in the middle of the ring and blasted foremn over and over again with huge right hands in the first round. The suggestion I have or much of you is to actually watch the fight looking for who was actually landing clean, and who did the majority of the landing and put in the necessary work to win rounds. Also not only did Ali win the vast majority of the rounds, but he put in the necessary good work that culminated in him knocking a tough as nails foreman out for the first and only time in his career as a result of perfectly timed counters, which he delivered in abundance throughout the duration of their scrap.

I honestly did not see that thread, just the other one where you claimed he was a boring fighter by todays standards.

Ali did hit him cleanly a bunch of times but those body punches by Foreman stopped Ali from boxing on his toes. Ali adjusted and fought intelligently on the ropes while avoiding as much head punches as he can, but taking punishment to the body, but in return he got his shots on Foreman's face. Good adjustment by Ali.

Ali dominated that whole match but his body did get quite a pummelling, none the less that match was nothing short of amazing ! He fought the perfect game, and was just a masterful display at 30 odd years old ! Honestly there's no boxer in history that would have beat Foreman on that day. Foreman was beast! I mean he was rocking Holy**** with just his jab at 45 years old, 20 years past his prime !

Boxing documentaries and revisionist history have created a lot of myths. Here are a few of the many myths off the top of my head that need to go:


George Foreman dominated Muhammad Ali before he got tired
Sugar Ray Leonard and the other big names ducked Aaron Pryor
Marvin Hagler was a brawler
Sugar Ray Leonard was a dancer


It's like people don't bother to actually watch fights or do a tiny bit of research, they believe the myths that have been regurgatated and continue to spew this rubbish.
