How did he earn it? By winning the British, Commonwealth and European belts to obtain a WBC #3 ranking. I know, I know, shots should be earned via a committee meeting and the stroke of a litigators pen but what can I say, Barker somehow felt that if he fought his way through the ranks he would get a shot with a bit of luck and negotiation. It is a crazy tale.

As for his shameless promotion of the fight itself. Lou DiBella most probably asked him not to mention it all as these promoter guys don’t like it when their contests are given column inches, they prefer the fighters not to mention the fight, the TV situation and whatnot but these guys keep coming out and promoting their dream title shots.

If only these fighters had something decent to really brag about like 2000+ forum posts or a +5 rep rating on a popular boxing website instead of talking up their pro careers.
