But why are they limiting it to just 4 Promoters?

While I applaud the effort, it is concerning that HBO is limiting it to only 4 promoters that they deal with. Why? This still does not solve the problem of the destruction of the boxing industry because by ignoring all the other promoters and limiting the number of promoters HBO deals with to 4. It simply represents the same "constructive" syndicate that already exists, because technically, all these promoters already deal with HBO.
The limitation continues to skew the true ability to present the best fighters and the best promoters, by not giving all the fighters and promoters a equal opportunity to compete. What about other promoters like - Mayweather Promotions out of Las Vegas, Prize Fight Promotions out of Memphis, KO Kings Promotions out of Atlanta, Dream Team Boxing Promotions out of Florida, Rumble Time Promotions, Hitz Entertainment, Halquist Promotions, Star Boxing out of New York and the list goes on.
Primarily, the only difference between the independent promoters and the big 4 has nothing to do with ability to promote, it just boils down to the amount of money to promote. If all the promoters had an opportunity to have huge amounts of money (millions of dollars) guaranteed and supplied by a TV station, then all of the other promoters can produce similar and better and more interesting fight shows. By keeping the status quo "syndicate" in place we will continually give the public horrible programs like Pacquaio vs. Mosely and the horrific decision like Williams vs. Lara.
In order to get to the spirit of the idea of this new show, it would only be equitable, fair and right to allow every promoter to participate in the program and to submit fighters. Keeping any form of a syndicate system will only perpetuate the downward spiral of the boxing industry. The key is to open up the system and let everyone compete. This show seems to just be a repackaging of the same package that put us in the same position that the boxing industry is now - on the death bed. The only true chance at resusitation is to open the system up and givr all promoters a chance. It opens you up to new markets within the nation, new ideas, new energy, and new blood. I encourage all the TV stations to open up the system to everyone.
