Comments Thread For: Dzinziruk, HBO Situation Could Become a Legal Tussle

A legal situation could be brewing between WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-1, 23KOs) and cable network HBO. This past March, Dzinziruk accepted a deal to move up in weight to challenge WBC middleweight Sergio Martinez. Because he was willing to face Martinez at the higher weight, HBO guaranteed Dzinziruk another televised date at 154-pounds.

Dziziruk's $750k minimum per televised fight probably isn't helping his situation.

That's an awfully lucrative contract he has. Feel bad for him but someone has to get squeezed and the other fighters HBO shows have more interest to Americans. HBO shouldn't of promised him another fight and shouldn't of had to. Dzinziruk should of wanted to fight Martinez, no string attached. HBO still looks bad though giving promises they can't keep.

The price might be steeped, but they shouldn't promised him a fight if they have no plan of honoring it.

Seems to me like this is yet another example of the blundering management of HBO that has created a negative impact of the sport of boxing. This promise to Sergi is a lot like the promises to Bradley and Alexander.

In addition, the entire handling of Martinez by HBO has been shoddy. Not accepting a fight against Zibik for Sergio, then accepting Zibik for Chavez is pure bull. As well WBC was in on the action by stripping away a title from a proper champion, then handing it over to a Mexican, which seems to be standard operating procedure.

if it's all down in a contract (with some stipulation as to when the second fight should occur,) and he hasn't had any problems on his end (injury during the timeframe, etc) then they should take them to court

it sucks because preparing a case for 750 k against frigin hbo will be expensive as **** for him
probably cost him at least 50 grand, maybe more

lets see how shaw - hi handles this
50 grand for a lawyer is a lot more expensive than the bumper sticker he usually buys to put on his car to promote a bradley fight

I believe 750k is in the contract between Dzinziruk and Gary Shaw, not between Dzinziruk and HBO. It's probably Gary Shaw's fault he hasn't been able to get an HBO date for promising him so much.

This is another example of an overhyped Euro Trash boxer! No one in the US cares about Euro fighters because its a fact that most of there fights are against other Euro boxers and overseas! I mean cmon plus who wants to see Sergei fight Lucas Konency, who is another Euro bum with a padded record fighting mostly Czech boxers overseas and most of the guys Konency has fought and beat have losing records, im talkin below below 500, and against guys with winning records he goes the distance! Oh sorry, he has a EBU belt, who cares? Konency is goin to do nothing for Sergeis career, in fact Vanesis Sergeis mandatory...That wld be a better fight , but Sergei dont want Heat like that, especially after lighting him up during sparring few years back! Sergei is overrated and demands too much to fight! Euro Trash boxer!

That is a very bad contract. Now people can't say HBO was wrong to Dzinziruk by forcing him into a Martinez fight. Who on Earth could he fight on HBO to justify that kind of price tag? Shaw ***ed him if you ask me.
