I don't think Gomez will win this, though it's not an absolute push over. I don't have a problem with how Canelo is being brought along. He's very young, but I do admit, I'd like to see him step it up after this fight. Angulo-Vanes winner vs Canelo-Gomez winner would be nice.
good point - good post. . . he is only 21 years old and still has some holes in his game. he's coming along nicely. No sense in throwing him to some monster-killer like Rubio and have him RIUNED like Lemieux is now. . .
Lemieux has a good corner. They stopped him from being ruined. I see what you mean though, would have been funner to swap Rubio with Ishida and Lemieux with Kirkland.
I have been saying this for a while, yet people on here want Canelo " to stup duking an fight a #1"
They dont realize dude is ONLY 21, name me a prospect who was fighting (and beating) Top 5 dudes at age 21? Mike Tyson? I know some 21 year olds get FED to top 5 guys but name me a Prospect who at age 21 beat a legit #1-#5 guy in their division?
Do you not realize he still isnt fully developed? Putting him into a fight with a big puncher can RUIN HIS CAREER? Especially if he gets punched on the chin before it ever develops, he could become glass chinned if he gets knocked out when he isnt fully matured.
People are such haters/double standards, dude is one of the hottest prospects in Boxing and at 21 years old people want him to fight #1 or #2 guys, well name me another boxer who actually fought #1 and #2 guys AND WON at age 21?
No one is denying the fact that Canelo is young and not fully developed. Under ideal circumstances, he would get to develop his game more before taking on serious challenges. At the same time, he should not get the distinction of "champ" until he is ready to face ANYONE. See what I'm saying? You can't give someone a title and then say "well he needs time." I just can't acknowledge him as a champion until he is there. Right now he is an awesome prospect, probably a solid contender.
i think goldenboy is doing a great job bringing canelo along
they're looking past the current starpower to make sure that he's brought along correctly in terms of the development of a professional boxer.
he's very young
i do not care how much money he could draw against a big opponent now
he'll draw even more against them later
and maybe if you bring him along right he wont get his head caved in before he gets there
seriously guys... canelo is 21 years old
he's only just becoming a man. he needs to mature physically and learn a bit more. he's not ready to face a huge puncher yet. he's just not there. he doesn't get out of the way instinctively, he's got too much offense on the mind
and he doesn't have a consistent jab yet
a guy like sergio mora would give him a handful at this stage. maybe even beat him (but you know they'd job a mute fighter like mora with no pop who runs)
and if you let him develop, he's almost garanteed to stop a guy like mora later on in his career if he develops a jab
I agree with you in regards to him being so young, and still developing and what not. However, if you are carrying a title , then you are past the developement stage. If they didnt feel this kid is ready for the lions in the division then they shouldnt have alowed him to fight for that title . Especially against some blown up welterweight chump.

Again.. you use the term PROSPECT.. Canelo is not a prospect my friend.. Canelo is a champion.. and if he is going to identify himself as a legite champion he needs to be fighting legit contendors.

xactly, these excuses of him being 21 and what not are to be used when a fighter is a prospect, NOT A CHAMPION!
