Is Morales a factor at 140 because he was competitive with Maidana?

I have noticed a few people claiming that Morales is a new threat at 140 because he had a competitive fight with Maidana. IMO Maidana is just that terrible of a boxer and got exposed as such more than anything else. The problem with this thinking is that Morales has all of a sudden become a legitimate opponent for top fighters and I think that is a distraction. The likes of Khan and Bradley should be fighting each other or move up in weight at this point, not worry about whether or not Morales wins his next fight. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit, but I'd hate to see khan or Bradley fight him when they could be fighting more competitive fights. Thoughts?

I don't think so, Morales style matches up perfectly against come-forward fighters like Maidana. I think Morales will look really impressive beating up on Barrios. Who ever is managing Morales career is doing a great job right now, they are putting fighters up against Morales who make Morales look good even in a loss.

no, only reason he looked good was cause of maidana's lack of skills.

Maidana has no defense and is easy to counter even though he for the most part dominated Morales because he is shot and not a 140lber.

Morales has nothing to offer as a fighter and should retire.

The Morales-Maidaina fight wasn't even close anyways... Morales threw a few flurries per rd and the crowd went crazy, and the bias as usual HBO crew made it sound like Morales was dominating... Maidana is going to be hit by everyone, especially a veteran skilled boxer. Even so Maidana easily won that fight.

Morales wants that big pay-day against Khan, my only fear is if Khan beats Morales up so bad that he could have serious injuries after the fight. Morales is playing with fire.

He may get that payday whether I like it or not but Khan is going to seriously **** him up if it happens.

This is even worse than Pac fighting Cotto again. If either of those two things happen, I'm gonna be pissed.

I think people are jumping on the Cotto/Pac II fight too soon. Lets see how Cotto looks against Margarito first. Cotto may have taken some damage in his career but something makes me feel he has a little more left in the gas-tank then Morales.

At least for this fight I would almost guarantee it. There is serious bad blood, and Cotto will be desperate to avenge his loss. After that is another story.
