    The problem with Sergio Martinez

Yes of course he is a wonderful fighter tonnes of talent all that good stuff. But he is no where making the money he should be and he isnt very popular to be realistic here. If you go outside the boxing community and say who is Sergio Martinez? Most would say "who the hell is that?". #1 He needs a better promoter and #2 that guy needs to learn some english to help win over the english speaking crowds and i find it more annoying than anything when there is a fighter who needs a translator.

So Sergio should go to Golden Boy or Top Rank NOW and get some english speaking classes under his belt man. Saul Alvarez too if he wants to be a "Oscar De La Hoya"

This guy needs promoting big time and all I see his promoter saying is "I GOT THE BEST FKN FIGHTER IN THE WORLD" "BOB ARUM SCARED TO PUT HIS FIGHTERS AGAINST HIS LION" ect ect....that **** aint going to fly. Its all about the MONEY!!!!!!!

I agree, that Martinez is only a star in boxing, and that his lack of crossover appeal has given top fighters the out they needed to avoid him.

When Pacquiao won the Fighter of the Decade and Fighter of the Year Awards in New York City two years ago at the BWAA Dinner, it was a huge event with incredible international media coverage.

When Martinez won Fighter of the Year at this year's awards dinner, there was almost no international media coverage from Argentinian or Spanish media. It was not nearly the same kind of event this year, and that speaks to the lack of star power in Martinez.

Martinez is a man of few words, it may be due to his culture. It doesn't usually translate well to American audiences. Martinez is an amazing fighter, but enough isn't being done for his marketing.

I agree, Martinez needs to leave DiBella. He sucks as a promoter in my opinion. Him learning English would be great too. He is pretty old though, what is he like 37? He can literally turn old overnight. It can be a serious letdown if someone like Top Rank or GoldenBoy sign him for like, say a 6 fight deal. I heard he is hosting a boxing show in Mexico. I'm not sure if it's true but if it is I think his Mexican fanbase can grow a bit.

When I called his advisor Sampson Lewkowicz two days ago, he was in Mexico with Sergio Martinez.

Martinez is screwed, he is going to have to go up to 168 and lose to someone just to make money. Don't care how hard Martinez trains I just can't imagine him having any success at 168. But if he does end up going that high it would be a very smart move to have a tune-up or two. Times not on Martinez's side, he has to make a decision about his career soon. Fighters seem frightened of him at 160 and 154.
