Comments Thread For: Photos/Quotes: Povetkin, Chagaev Go Face To Face

lexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KOs) and Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KOs) today participated in an international press conference in Erfurt, Germany, one month ahead of their WBA Heavyweight Title fight. After Wladimir Klitschko added the WBA belt to his IBF & WBO titles, the WBA made him super champion and the title became vacant. Top-ranked Chagaev and Povetkin, the number two, now fight for the title in Erfurt on August 27. “I have won the Olympic gold medal and I´ve been World and European Amateur Champion,” unbeaten Povetkin said. “Now I want to finally accomplish my goal of winning the world title as a professional. I have a lot of respect for Chagaev, but he will not get in my way.” [Click Here To Read More]

Chagaev looks healthier than in past photos - or is that wishful thinking on my part? Povetkin looks rather soft - the inactivity probably hasn't been good for him.

If he's at his best, Ruslan will beat Povetkin.

But I'm picking Povetkin to win by decision, because Chagaev seems to have seriously declined. Povetkin didn't look good in his last fight against Firtha, but Ruslan looked even worse in his last fight against Travis Walker.

            Very interesting matchup.

Two world class pros with great amatuer backgrounds.

Hopefully Povetkin wins and gains the courage to fight Wlad.

I want to see Wlad demolish Povetkin and shut Atlas' big mouth.

              Agreed.

              Prime Chagaev beats Povetkin.

Current Chagaev will get outworked and beaten up by Povetkin.

Povetkin is looking REALLY soft around the midsection. Looks like he's been eating burgers and drinking russian milkshakes.

Im leaning more towards Chagaev based on their current condition.
