Are steroids in boxing over-rated?

This is not a pacquiao mayweather thread, please repeat ur repetitive arguments somewhere else. I just want to know ur opinion on steroids and their place in boxing. There are two major points ive been thinking about.
1) I think its clear roids dont have the same benefits across every sport. In baseball its plainly obvious they do a great deal of help. But u never even hear about them in basketball, where increased muscle mass can be a hindrance. I pretty much assume the majority of football players roided up so im not going to mention it. What effect do u think roids have on boxers? How much do u think they benefit?
The reason i ask is really zab judah. The guy works with vic conte (the roid super hero), comes out ripped as ***, and cant even make it six rounds??? Then u have the vargez example, plenty of talent, plenty of roids, lack luster results. Im completely convinced roids have a noticeable impact on a boxers performance, so dont misunderstand me. All im asking is how much of a benefit do u think is there? I think its plainly obvious they dont turn u into superman. U dont just start walking through punches. They cant take a looser and turn them into a winner.
I think roids are a BIG problem in boxing and the testing methods need immediate improvement. But i also think we as boxing fans are getting carried away with the impression that roids alone can turn u into some sort of unstoppable terminator. U thoughts?green k

Try them and you will experience them for yourself.I used to be a skinny little boy and I was the smallest boy in my class. If I was to show you my pictures you wouldnt believe it.
Why dont you do a simple experiment.Go jogging today, just do something like 3-5 miles. When you come back buy some creatine and start taking it tonight.Go jogging again then compare your time.
You will notice your speed increased drastically and also your endurance.Creatine is not even all that but that just shows you what supplements can do.Steroids are way way more powerful.
What's more they aid in your recovery. You have heard people like Manny train for 7 hrs yet people like Cotto train only for 2 hours, that's the difference. In the end the conditioning will be different.
I dont know about you but I was in boarding school and we played many sports.after a rugby session you couldnt study. So bad was it we could only practice twice a week then play on saturdays.Enter supplements and after the shower you are ready to go,the recovery is awesome.Last edited by Jim Tom; 07-25-2011, 07:19 AM.Comment

what about side effects? most of the time people are only talking about the benefits but what about the negative effects of it? is it ok to take peds for years without ill-effects on your body? or is it going to shorten your boxing career?
if you think about it anything that is unnatural will always have a negative effect especially in the long run. does the benefits of peds outweigh its side effects? is it worth the risk?Comment

I think the biggest mistake people make when making a case against steriod usage in boxing is the actual word "steroid". The main culprit is EPO. It does not necessarily make you bigger and you don't need it on fight night. That's why night of the fight testing is useless. It's advantages are seen in the training process. I don't care what designer drug you use, you still have to put in the work. EPO allows for endurance training, thus creating the ability to take that once a day, 4 hour "balls to the wall" training and turn it into twice a day. That's the advantage. Look at all the clips of Ariza training his fighters. He's not doing anything "special". Take a bat to a heavy bag? Use resistance bands in short controlled spurts to work twitch muscles? Throwing a medicine ball in the air? I mean really...those "training" techniques don't bring anything new to the table. The stuff we don't see does. So stop paying attention to what the big strong guys get caught with. Pay attention to what the small endurance athletes get caught with. There are 120 lb grown men riding bikes through France getting popped with EPO damn near every race. Their advantages in their sport mimics boxing moreso than a 40 year old man belting 700 ft balls over a fence.Comment

Boxing is a skilled sport, much more so that baseball, sprinting, cycling, American football.
Strength does not mean bigger punching power.
Skills, dedecation, natural abilities training methods, living right, game plan, come way before the effect of roids.
If PEDs could turn me into half the fighter Pacquiao is, I would be guzzling down.Comment

I've used PED's before and they really do what they say, improve performance.I remember when i could only bench 60kgs,then I took ******.The following day I could bench 100kgs with no change in diet.I would hit the heavy bag and it would swing like crazy, the guys at my gym refused to spar with me.mind you ****** is a weak steroid and not even meant to increase your strength so to speak.
When I played rugby a few supplements greatly improved my stamina, made me quick and explosive.I could ride through tackles I couldnt before those supplements. The supplements werent banned though.
I once bought some supplements on Conte's website, they reduce fatigue by transporting all waste away from the muscle's etc. They also increase your concentration and enhance your accuracy, things you wouldnt ordinarily do.
The zab case is different,Zab has always been ripped without steroids,he's just weak mentally.zab is a bully and once you stand up to him he quits.

Minor side effects associated with ****** use include sleep disorders, nausea, changes in skin color and changes in sexual drive.
Yeah he use to like women before, now it just likes FloydComment
