    Rewatched Ortiz-Berto The Other Night

man that was a very exciting fight. Very underrated. Ortiz was really impressive. I liked the way he came out aggressive at the start of every single round. He ran to the center of the ring and threw shots. Thats the #1 thing you have to worry about if you are a Floyd fan. In the 1st few rounds when Floyd could be rusty & trying to figure out the Southpaw style, Ortiz will be explosive & aggressive. If Floyd is not on point (and maybe even if he really is) then he could get caught by something & hurt.

Ortiz was also very big & well built at the weight. The most impressive thing about him was his stamina. This was a very tough, high action fight, but Ortiz kept firing. It was grueling but he had the strength & stamina to keep letting his hands go in the clinches & outworking Berto. You could tell that the move up to WW was great for his body & stamina. It was also dope the fire he had. Berto would laugh at times & try to get Ortiz to play along or he would want to touch gloves alot and Ortiz never did.

I also recently watched Mosley-Mayweather and one thing I did notice is that I dont think Floyd is truly as big as some think he is. I think he looks real big now because you compare him to the old Floyd that use to come in at 146-148 pounds at WW. His body was more chisled & defined than Mosley but if you really just look at the body's closely, Mosley was still alot more thicker. I think Ortiz will be very solidly bigger in that fight but Floyd has always had very underrated strength.

The bottom line is that Ortiz is very dangerous right now. Thats 2 great performances by 2 great young guys in Ortiz & Khan. They are hungry and these older guys better watch out. Floyd will have to be very careful early and stay alert but if he makes it through that then I think he will takeover and dominate the rest of the way, if not from the very start. Still, that Ortiz-Berto fight is very underrated and had a ton of good back & forths action

As I've said before, I think Ortiz has a better chance THROUGHOUT the fight to land a solid punch on Mayweather than Mosley/Márquez/Hatton ever did.

Ortiz is legitimate live dog and I would not be surprised if he pulls off this upset.

I pretty much felt Mayweather would embarrass Mosley, and that's what happened. When you looked at stats, you could see that Mosley was a guy who had a weaker connect percentage than Mayweather (and considering Mosley's last opponents were guys who are not very defensive in Cotto/Mayorga/Margarito).

With Ortiz, again...he's explosive and can stun you. But sometimes I think of two things that makes me want to put down big points on Mayweather:

    1. Ortiz has NEVER been in a fight of THIS magnitude (and he's a just a boy at 24)

    2. He had Peterson reeling and Peterson came back to outbox Ortiz for the most part. Was Ortiz gassed at 140? Probably. Or is Lamont more talented than we give him credit for?

Either way, if anybody can potshot Ortiz, it's Mayweather.

Yeah Ortiz will get picked apart and frustrated, I mean come on from a non-bias fan here Ortiz's power is nothing compared to what Hatton was being hyped to have. Seriously can you argue against that point? Hatton's power before Mayweather was very VERY VERY hyped up, and talked about and definitely had a lot more depth of an argument for an upset then Ortiz and his power.

              ortiz may not win...

but if he puts forrward the effort he did against berto...

his power pressure and solid chin couldd make it a good match up....

i think he khan and pac are some of the few that would be compeetitive with Floyd.

It was a good fight and Ortiz delivered when he had to suck it up, which some questioned he could do after Maidana. But that has no bearing on the fight with PBF. Beating Berto hardly makes Ortiz a threat to a guy of PBF's caliber, it simply makes him an acceptable opponent. Ortiz isn't getting more than 3 rounds against PBF en route to a schooling and possible late stoppage loss.

Ortiz looked strong and powerful in that fight, looked like he could potentially be a handful for any WW, he was nice and aggressive which seemed to suit him too, however he did look scrappy at times and made some mistakes (he did box great though), lets just wait and see if he makes these mistakes against Floyd and see how Floyd goes about it.

floyd might not have the punch to put ortiz away....

unless it is perfectly timedcounter that ortiz doesnt see.
