Everybody in my gym tries to kill each other in the ring

I've been sparring for about 3 weeks now and I've observed that every kid who spars at my gym is trying to knock his sparring partner out and/or hurt him. I'm nothing compared to the guy who I get paired up with, a black kid whose been training for 7 years. (Im 6'2 180 and I'd assume he's around 6'1 155, and we're both about 17) My 4th time sparring this kid really comes after me (he clearly dislike me, I'm thinking he's intimidated by the weight difference) and really sticks a jab into my nose, and it really started pouring blood. At this point he triples up on his jab, his only real advantage since I'm stronger than him and throw every other punch besides a jab better than him, and his gloves are covered in my blood

After this I start really looking at what the other kids who have been around for years are doing in the ring and it's exactly the same, nothing but hayemakers and they really dig into their partners like they want to knock their heads off.

There's 3 guys in there, the most talented and seasoned boxers in fact, who just let these idiots hammer them while they dance around and block, and throwing their punches for accuracy instead of the intention to hurt. This seems like exactly the type of atmosphere that deters people who would otherwise love to try out boxing.

This isn't all that uncommon I wouldn't think. Mike Tyson used to KO sparring partners with regularity.

I'm literally the heaviest person training at 180 lbs so none of us are preparing for professional heavyweight fights as Mike Tyson would.

There is no controlled sparring its nessesary to develope boxers.jab him to the body and also slip to the right after he throws his jab and throw a right hook to the body, work his body and get back at me with the results

Oh I hear ya'. That's the point I was trying to make. If a world-class HW is still koing sparring partners (which his trainers HATED, because nobody would spar with him, lol) what do you think is going to go on in ur gym? It's just the lay of the land brotha'. I know you aren't suppose to do that in sparring, sometimes things just get heated. Ya' gotta' roll with the punches. Literally. Just bust em' up back, to the best of ur ability.

that makes a lot more sense, I used to do TKD 2 years ago and we really took it easy on each other, everyone is there to learn not compete

You train how you fight and you'll fight like you trained.

Down at Galaxy we always had heated sparring, it was very competitive.

This guy who has 7 years experience is just being an ass. With new guys there is no need to bust them up. But then again, if you survive and keep coming back for more you will eventually learn to fight on his level.

You joined boxing man, its not an easy sport. If it's too much for you then you might be better suited to play golf.........Rockin'

Sparring is not about killing the other guy, or do you think that Cunningham or Afolabi would like to spar with Wlad knowing that most likely they'll get out of the ring in a stretcher?

Sparring is about developing skills, getting in shape and also about getting off some anxiety that you get when you enter a ring.

As I box in my college, there are a lot of guys in boxing so it's pretty easy to see two beginners fighting against each other, and two advanced guys fighting against each other also. Sometimes there is one more experienced boxer in the ring, but they are told to go light most of the times. There's no point in seeing an advanced boxer destroying a beginner ... most likely the beginner will freak out and drop boxing instead of gaining confidence and try to improve.

Of course sometimes things heat up, but as I've said it happens with two beginners or to advanced guys, not just one advanced guy beating up a beginner.

I'm not scared, I can't wait to hop in the ring and repay the favor to him. I took the hits too, that's why he tripled up on it. I just don't think the way to learn is to hop in there and get your face caved in, but like I said he'll get his when I get better. You're a very good poster Rockn', thanks for the input
