i just got to see the fight and jones is just afraid of tarver.i still think jones has it in himself to beat tarver but not in this mindset.the fight looked to me as if roy was thinking i can just win off defence like willy pep. i cant stand the way he gave away this fight. i think roy had him this time and just gave it all away
jones was just afraid of tarver's power

Exactly, Roy could have won. He tried to fight like he did in the first fight and did a great job. The only differene is in the first fight he was more offensive. He just didn't attack Tarver enought plain and simple. And I agree with you Tarver's power was what kept Roy from opening up more.Originally posted by darrenshyrockfordi just got to see the fight and jones is just afraid of tarver.i still think jones has it in himself to beat tarver but not in this mindset.the fight looked to me as if roy was thinking i can just win off defence like willy pep. i cant stand the way he gave away this fight. i think roy had him this time and just gave it all away -
I just watched the fight for the first time. From what I heard from the other boxing fans was Roy was clowing and not doing ****. I made some reply pissed at Jones for not taking the fight seriously enough. But after watching it. Roy was just too cautious. If he was more active Im sure he could have won the fight. Roy looked awful damn good in the 5th Round also. I wish he could have kept it up. Plus he showed a lot of heart after getting hurt in the 11th to come back and win the 12th.
Roy still had a damn good connect ratio on his power shots, 36% I believe. If Roy would have thrown just 10 more shots a round, half to the body. He might have been able to get a KO. Tarver backed up every time Jones hit him in the body in the later rounds.
Im sure we will see Roy again, rumor is at cruiser. Looks like he still has some great stuff and I think the last Tarver fight probably help his mental blocks. Im sure he will get to his 50th win before he retires.Comment
