Khan has slammed the move for sending out the wrong message to young people, despite Olympic organisers moving to defend the decision.

The 2004 silver medallist said: 'It is clearly sending the wrong signal to kids and young people. If we want them to be healthy and educate them to eat healthily, we need to think about approaching them in a different way, especially around sport.

'The Olympics are a great opportunity to show young people what types of food they need in different aspects of their lives. I think this is a mistake.'

McDonald's has been an Olympic sponsor for 35 years and London 2012 this week offered a defence of their decision.

A spokesman said: 'McDonald’s is a long-term Olympic sponsor of the Olympic movement and has been an Olympic partner for many years, but we will make sure that a wide variety of food is available in the Olympic Park.'

As an official sponsor, McDonald's will be the only branded restaurants on site.

And despite organisers insisting there will be a variety of food on offer, McDonald's revealed they plan to sell 1.75 million meals during the Games. A figure which equates to two meals per ticket sold and that is 500,000 more meals than were sold at Beijing in 2008.

The company’s UK chief executive, Jill McDonald, said: 'To be involved in the greatest sporting event on earth is hugely exciting. We want everyone who visits our Olympic Park restaurants to have the best possible experience.'

McDonald's should offer Khan a multi-million dollar endor$ement deal. That would change Khan's tune reeeeal quick.

      This is just objectively untrue.

        This, pretty much. Thank you.

I'm not saying that McD sells great food, but it's not horrible either. No need to ban it from the Olympics (or anywhere else for that matter) and you won't become a fat slob weighing 400lb for eating at McD once in a while.

I eat McDonald's almost every day, and I'm in pretty good shape. I'm not boxer-ripped, but I workout everyday, and am healthy. I'm 6'1" and probably no more than 16% bodyfat at about 210-215lbs. Just a bunch of jealous non-Americans in here who wish they were American. I'm Canadian, but I don't hate on America. Just a bunch of nationalistic idiots in here. They will take any chance they can get to take shots at America. It's sad, quite frankly.

I went to Weinersnitchel the other day for lunch and I live in Texas. I only went there because I was out running errands and it was right next to the bank. I went inside and placed my order and looked around and everyone in there was obese. 100% everyone. Except me and the chick taking the orders.

I'm 5'10 about 175-180 and I work out 5 days outta the week. I do thousands of crunches, run 4-5 miles at a time 4-5 days out of the week and do hundreds of push up and curls and I still don't have a six pack. Its because my diet is ****. I eat alot of empty carbs and drink lots of sugary drinks and candy because I don't like to cook and eat out alot.

Lets look at a average meal at Mcdonalds. Burger, fries and Soda. Not a single calorie of nutritional value out of close to 2000 calories. The average person needs around 2000 calories a day. So one meal at Mcdonalds is equal to a entire days worth of calories for the average person.

Sad but true, If got was given a endorsement deal with McDonalds he would be going around telling everyone how great it was.

the US is the 3rd largest country in the world by population. of course we're going to have more fat people here than most other countries. we also have more foreign born immigrants than every other country...and that's not counting illegal aliens. YOU'RE ALL A PART OF AMERICA'S FAT PROBLEM.

                    The lad is right, yanno.

Having the world's most famous and most unconscionable junk-food multinational right there on the site is just shabby.

Doesn't really matter what you look like, genetics dictate so much in terms of ability to gain muscle etc. Also, doing thousands of reps with low resistance is definitely not the best way to build muscles.

No nutritional value? What's wrong with the protein in the beef/chicken? What's wrong with the carbs in the fries? What's wrong with the carbs in the bun? Etc etc.

Like I said, it's not the best food obviously, but it's not that horrible. It also depends alot on how much energy you consume on a daily basis. A women who should consume about 1500-1800 kcal a day should not eat a large meal at McD and nothing else every other day. But for an endurance athlete who consumes 6000kcal a day it wouldn't be a problem, although he could've chosen a better meal..

You can get fat on chicken and rice, and skinny on pizza and candy.
