I was surprised at how many were picking Green to beat Tarver. I've got nothing against Green but it seemed like an easy bet picking Tarver.

Glad Tarver snagged another title in another weight class.

Funny, I never really liked Tarver until I heard him as an announcer on Showtime. He's my favorite commentator and now I'll always root for him in the ring.

tarver still looks to have a bit left in the tank
            plenty more speed

            still takes a good punch
and he looked confident as all get out coming into this fight
i think he'll do well at CW and perhaps even finish at the top of the division if he can get a big fight or two quickly

he hasn't taken a huge beating at this point
but he's still working with a 42 year old body

Tarver's always been a good guy fighting for respect and with a respect for the sport. Many like myself had a hard time warming up to him specifically because of what happened with Jones Jr. We felt Jones was just too much class ahead, beginning to make noise at Heavyweight and the American HW champion we've been clamoring for and even expected a Jones Jr vs Tyson megafight. His gifts made us believe he'd compete with the bigger heavyweights.

However then Tarver calls out Jones and seemingly plays the role of wining villain and makes Jones look somewhat ordinary in their first fight. Even after that, the expectation was Jones would blow him away in a rematch due to the weight/muscle drain from the first fight. Once Tarver shocked Jones, many of us were in such disbelief and naturally had it out for Tarver. It didn't help that Tarver then lost to Johnson.

Hopkins at this time began his "I'm going to be a living legend" campaign and the general public sided with him continuing a legacy. Beating Tarver somewhat helped those still stunned by the Jones Jr. fight 2 and fight 3 losses.

Now that Jones Jr. if fighting past his prime, anyone who beats him seems to automatically become an enemy of American boxing fans as we remember his gifts and personality. We also hear him commentating so it's not like he is forgotten. Same with Tarver, we have come to respect him over the years and with his commentating he is not forgotten.

So with Green's confidence, the fact that he stopped Jones Jr. and was made out to be a legend for that, many naturally warmed up to Tarver even more for this fight.

I personally am happy for Tarver. He's always worked hard with a respect for the sport and deserves it.

I hope we get to see Tarver VS the best in the division now, he has racked up a decent win today.
