Now whilst there is NO doubt that David Haye was taken to school and back against WK earlier this month, I do think boxing needs to look at the top end of weight divisions. Having fighters in a weight category with around 40lbs difference between fighters is ludicrous, and should be dealt with. As Vitali himself said post-fight “David Haye is not a HW”
Therefore I think 200-220lb should be a super cruiserweight division.
Not only would this lessen the gap in weights at the top end, but would also add extra zest to the top tier of boxing and give the cruiserweight division more prominence and recognition, something is currently lacks, badly.
Some might point out the fact that boxing is already saturated with weight categories, and this would only further add to the spider web of confusion that surrounds the sport.....but.....this is dealing with weights that NEED to be categorised! If you want to take to task too many weights then eliminate straw/minimum, drop a super from feather or bantamweight perhaps. The fact is that the leap currently from cruiser to HW is too large and must be addressed accordingly.
200-220lbs - the Super Cruiserweight Division.
Thoughts?
