Comments Thread For: Cleverly Likely To Make Mandatory Clash Before Bellew

Nathan Cleverly is likely going to make a mandatory defense of his WBO light heavyweight title in September, and then a year-end grudge fight against domestic rival Tony Bellew. Cleverly, 24, became world champion without throwing a punch when the reigning champion Juergen Braehmer failed to turn up for their title fight in May. Cleverly wants to make his mandatory, get rid of Bellew and then pursue the other champions in his division.

I like Cleverly as a fighter and he's only 24 so i suppose he can take a couple of gimme fights before going onto the serious challenges, but i have to say he is a walking fashion disaster. What the hell was he wearing on Saturday night? A purple blazer if i remember correctly. Who told him that looked good FFS!
And that chin strap "beard" is just a disgrace.

Im hoping Cleverly fights on September 17th and Degale is on the undercard, would be another good night of boxing!!! I think this is maybe why they are holding back on giving the Degale dates out yet....

cleverly is a good fighter needs to learn some dicipline before he talks about unification though throwing wild shots and leaving your chin open in a fight with a champion or half decent challenger isn't going to go down very well for sure he got rocked off that pole in his last fight and to be honest he was pants

I agree he leaves his chin open a bit too much but to say he was pants in his last fight is a bit over the top, he was obviously really frustrated with what happened in the build up so he just wanted to go out there and have a tear up and he got the guy outta there in the 4th who isn't a terrible fighter. he was very aggressive against a guy he knew he couldnt lose to, Nathan has ridiculously fast hands and he just needs to improve his defence imo to become a top fighter and i think that will come because he is obviously very talented....

I meant the other guy was pants lol i rate cleverly but of late he's been a bit sloppy but that could very well be down to all these fighters constantly pulling out on him must be very frustrating. Hes got a brilliant chin and likes a tear up whats not to like about him

That's the south Wales valley's fashion for you. Cardiff is the fashion capital of Wales, the rest of the country hasn't got a clue!

Whilst everyone always talks "so easily" about "gimme" fights...have those same "everyones" ever considered the overmatched and overgunned opponents in these "gimme" fights.??

They fight for pennies on the dollar, and are not only expected to, but indeed DO receive sound beatings........

Who thinks of THEM?? I always do. Who else??
