In an IBF featherweight elimination bout, Mexico City’s Eduardo “Canilla” Escobedo (31-3, 22KOs) will once again face Joksan “Torito” Hernandez (22-3, 14KOs) of Ensenada, Mex, on Saturday night from the Olympic Coliseum located at the University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mex. The twelve round main event headlines the “Puños de Hierro (Fists of Steel)” fight card presented by HG Boxing. The contest will mark the two Mexican warriors face each other. The first time back in January of 2010, Escobedo was awarded a unanimous decision over the always tough Hernandez with scores of 97-93, 97-92 and 96-93.
Escobedo is coming off a third round TKO over journeyman Mauricio Martinez last June and has wins over Aristides Perez, Edel Ruiz and Jose Francisco Mendoza while dropping a twelve round decision to former champion Daniel Ponce de Leon in his thirty-four bout career. Hernandez, a classic come forward brawler, won a majority decision over Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo in his last bout in April to capture the vacant IBF latino featherweight strap and holds wins over Ira Terry, Miguel Beltran Jr, Hector Velazquez and Francisco Leal.
“I know that it won’t be easy but i will defeat Joksan Hernandez again,” Escobedo confidently stated at a recent press conference. Escobedo is trained by famed Mexican trainer Nacho Beristain.
Hernandez was not silent as he threatened that this time the outcome would be completely different as he vows to not only apply the same kind of pressure he is known for but this time, he will be more consistent and effective with his punches. Hernandez also mentioned that he is confident that his power will make a big difference and he is confident that he will be able to stop Escobedo in the early rounds.
“I know that Hernandez has the tools to beat Escobedo this second time around and in spectacular fashion,” Conrado “Conejo” Guerrero, Hernandez’s manager, said at the same press conference. “Zanfer Promotions, Hernandez’s promoter, has promised him a big step up if he is to come out victorious in this match up and that is what we are expecting.”
