    Tyson era over-hyped?

    Today's HW era is tougher.

Brewster would've destroyed the prime Tyson (who nevertheless had no heart) and there would've been no Tyson era to speak of.

    right or wrong?

            Wrong

Todays heavyweights for the most of them are garbage. Tyson was looking at a **** prison term, I believe his trainer Mato was dead at this point(could be wrong but I don't think so) and lost his wife. Talk about not wanting to get out of bed?

Flip side, Buster lost his mom and had some other personal things going on in his life and felt he had nothing to lose.

People handle personal issues differently. Lets not also forget if he would have won that fight he could have very well went to jail as the champ. Sorry, I just don't put it past Don King to fix a fight.

Also lets not forget some people gave Douglas the 10 count while the ref was bull****ting. I for one didn't, but each person sees their own thing.

Bottom line, Douglas would have got walked by a pre 90s Tyson.

Tyson at one point was the complete package. He had the power, skill, motivation, chin, reflexes, head movement and more. From 85-89 he wasn't overated, he was the KING!

Brewster couldn't even beat that garbage man from Australia. A prime Tyson would've knocked out Brewster within 3 rounds. The heavyweight division has been bad for over 20 years. Holmes era was bad, Tyson era was bad, Lewis era was bad & todays era is bad.

Its popular to say the heavyweight division has been bad since the 1970s...but on the other hand, the 70s are glorified more than they ought to be. In all honesty, there was comparable talent in the 80s and 90s. Besides Ali, Frazier and Foreman in the seventies what other all-time greats?? The late 80s and 90s had Tyson, Lewis and Holyfield, three all-time greats. As far as the supporting casts of both eras....the 70s had Norton, Quarry, Shavers, Lyle, etc...

The 80s and 90s had Bowe, Ruddock, Morrison, Tucker, Bonecrusher Smith, etc.

Throw in Larry Holmes in both decades (as he was really good in both, and actually still very good when Tyson destroyed him as he proved by fighting well against top-10 later) and you have a strong era in heavyweight boxing.

The problem and the misconception is in the fights that were made. The 1970s had many more memorable fights, and this goes a long way in influencing opinions. In the 1970s, all the big fights were made, for the most part. The later era was plagued by a fractured championship and was missing a few BIG fights that should have been made (re: Tyson-Bowe, Lewis-Bowe, Tyson-Holyfield in 91, etc)

As far as talent is considered, they were actually quite close.
