Lets get the label "WARRIOR" correct!

In the buildup to Jones/Tarver I listen to Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver refer to themselves as warriors and it got me thinking...are these guys warriors simply because they lace up the gloves???

My conclusion is absolutely ****ing not, they are in no way warriors and anyone who thinks they are needs to have their head examined.

In boxing we have become far too accustom to calling every fighter out their a warrior simply because they fight for a living, well lets put that **** to bed!

Do we call all champions great because they have a belt? **** no, so why should we call all fighters warriors just because they fight.

Case in mother****ing point...Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales...are they warriors...absolutely...think about these two for a second, not just their epic war but what they have done in the past 5 or so years...they define exactly what a warrior is.

Now look at Roy Jones and Toney Tarver...what have they done to deserve the title WARRIOR, sure Tarver got his ass whupped by Harding in their first fight and came back to win the second but is he a warrior for that? Hell Jones has never done anything remotely related to "warrior status". (but they are referred to by us and by themselves all of the time as warriors)

Point of the thread is this, if Roy Jones and Toney Tarver and any other fighter who puts on gloves professionally is a warrior then we have a problem...by making this mistake we disgrace true warriors like the ones we will witness on Saturday night.

Not all champions are great and not all fighters are warriors...opinions anyone...especially the Jones contingent...

All boxers are warriors but some have more grit and determination than others, and some display it more dramatically than others. Fighters like Gatti, Holyfield,Corrales, Castillo,etc. are fighters that represent the dramatic warrior, but all fighters are warriors, this is without question.

Who calls themselfs warriors in 05 anyway? Being a warrior is just mere opinion, so everyone could apply it to themselfs.

Anyone who throws fists at each other for a living is more of a warrior than you or I are; they, therefore, deserve the title. They all risk their lives when they step in the ring, and they all take shots just the same. No, they all aren't crazy or dumb enough to just go and exchange blows.

Achilles was considered the greatest warrior to ever live, and he was never hurt (until his fight with Hector in which his achilles tendon was cut and he later died), but he was considered a warrior nonetheless.

Why should these guys, who regularly risk their lives, whether or not they go to war with each other all the time, be any less of a warrior than the other people?

2 One who is engaged aggressively or energetically in an activity, cause, or conflict.

That's how warrior is defined, and, in my opinion, both Tarver and Jones fit the definition perfectly. Perhaps you have some skewed view on what a warrior should be, as Martin has on what boxers should be (he thinks they should needlessly go to war, rather than use the sweet science like Mayweather does, to him, these guys are not true prize fighters because they are safety first rather than fan's fun first), but they are, indeed warriors.

He is absolutely a warrior, and he's also, when he wants to be, a skilled boxer.

Guys like Gatti are brawlers, not boxers.

Anyone who has the guts, courage and discipline to get in the ring with a pair of boxing gloves are warriors. So Roy Jones, my dad, Toney....even John Ruiz( I can't believe I said that) are all warriors in my book.

This post does not speak well for your boxing knowledge. Barrera is an all time great and a great warrior.
