Why dont tv companies have their own promotions?

Any1 ever thought why the likes of HBO, Showtime or SKY aren`t promoters and have a roster of fighters that they could promote to avoid having to deal with awkward promotional companies demanding huge fees? just a thought.

Boxing isn't a major sport in the US, and only a tiny part of HBO's business. It's really a LOT of hard work and planning, full of disappointments, with very many people and different businesses involved, with massive synchronization. A Company like HBO already has enough to do, and to be able to promote their own shows would need to take over a top class working promotional company with a big reputation. It'd just cost them money like pouring it down a hole; they would never make it back.

They are both specialised businesses, and with very different requirements. Why doesn't a monster company like Top Rank go onto the TV Sports Entertainment business????

For the same reason TV channels rarely produce their own shows. They buy shows from production companies because 1) the pros can do it better and cheaper, and 2) it's less financial risk.
