Comments Thread For: Chagaev's Trainer Expects Povetkin Clash To Happen

Michael Timm, trainer of Uzbek heavyweight Ruslan Chagaev, expects his boxer to return in a "title fight with Alexander Povetkin." As BoxingScene.com reported on Wednesday, the WBA will likely make Wladimir Klitschko their "super champion" at heavyweight, which in turn makes the "regular" title vacant. Chagaev, the mandatory challenger, would face number two ranked Povetkin for the vacant title. Povetkin's promoter, Sauerland Event, is discussing the fight with Universum, who handle Chagaev. A date of August 27 in Erfurt is rumored but not confirmed.

I hope Chagaev can get fit/healthy enough to put up a good fight. He was really lethargic against Walker.

Well, if a fake belt is what it takes to get Povetkin to fight another decent fighter, I guess we'll just have suck it up.

Possibly on Auguest 27? Didn't expect it to be that soon that would be great. This fight and the Vitali-Adamek fight a week apart.

The Sauerland show on August 27 is shaping up nicely if that becomes reality.

            Helenius vs Liakhovich
Povetkin vs Chagaev for the WBA regular title

Jones vs Hernandez for the WBA cruiserweight title
Cunningham vs TBA for the IBF cruiserweight title

Pulev vs Rogan for the European Union heavyweight title

Even if just 3 of those fights materialize, it's an excellent card.
