    How can manny be Good

Pacquiao victory eclipsed by Krista Ranillo 'affair'

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao may have defeated Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto last Saturday, but his stunning victory was quickly eclipsed by rumors of his alleged love affair with young starlet Krista Ranillo.

Pacquiao: From belt magnet to controversy magnet

The undeniable strength of sports superstar Manny Pacquiao – the world’s greatest pound-for-pound boxer – has not only transformed him into a title belt magnet but a controversy magnet as well.

At the height of a full-blown promotional campaign by Solar Sports and GMA Network for his fight with British Ricky “The Hitman" Hatton, Pacquiao shocked Filipinos when he suddenly appeared in an ABS-CBN report announcing that he would be jumping the fence.

WHO'S THAT GIRL? Pacquiao sent tongues wagging after he appeared in a photo showing him dancing with a 'mysterious' woman. GMANews.TV
It turned out that Pacquiao had apparently mulled reuniting with ABS-CBN and decided to tape the video message announcing it, but told the network not to show it without his go signal.

However, complications arose when ABS-CBN, as the boxer claimed, released the video without authorization. The giant network belied Pacquiao’s claim.

After discussing with his lawyers and officials from Top Rank – the show’s promoter – Pacquiao decided to stay with Solar Sports. The historic 359-second bout with Hatton was shown at GMA.

    Affair with Ara?

Manny had been embroiled in other intrigues, long before the purported "network rift."

Perhaps, making one of the biggest splashes was the boxer’s rumored affair with sexy actress Ara Mina.

Only days after the historic win, the pair has been under increasing scrutiny in news headlines, showbiz columns, and especially in cyberspace.

The rumors were heightened when video footage showed the pound-for-pound king’s wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, shedding tears while the couple was attending a Thanksgiving Mass last Sunday.

In the clip, Jinkee is seen breaking into sobs after healing priest Fr. Joey Faller said in his homily, “We can only hurt those people whom we love so much, our husband, our wife … give us the peace we need at this point." She turned away from her husband when he attempted to console her, and instead sought comfort from a friend standing next to her.

Did Jinkee cry because of the boxing champ’s supposed philandering ways? Pacquiao does not think so. “Naiyak lang, pero okay naman," Pacquiao told GMA News reporter Mariz Umali.

Pacquiao had kept mum on the issue, saying only “no comment" to those who have been asking him about the real score between him and Krista, his co-star in their upcoming film “Wapakman."

But on Wednesday, Krista finally broke her silence.

“Yeah, heard about it (rumors) already … we’re still discussing when and how to speak," Krista wrote during an Internet chat with GMA News entertainment reporter Nelson Canlas. In his report, Canlas quoted Krista as saying that she is not pregnant.

Meanwhile, her manager Arnold Vegafria said their camp would confront the matter when they return to the Philippines. “I’m now in Paris and Krista is now in the United States. But we spoke kanina and we’ll talk about how we’re going to handle all these allegations sa kanya. So when I get back, we’ll hold a presscon para to answer all the allegations sa kanya na mga negative," Vegafria said.

    Who’s that girl?

The 23-year-old Krista is the eldest daughter of actor Mat Ranillo III, who is known for his role as Jesus Christ in Lenten-themed films and plays in the 90’s. She graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Last year, she had a daring role in the indie film “Paupahan" that was reported to have earned the ire of her father. Krista is reported to have gone topless in the film, where she plays a struggling starlet who sleeps around just to get a break in the movie industry.

Krista has also been on the cover of two sexy men’s magazines: FHM in its August 2008 issue and Maxim in the March 2009 issue.

The rumors between Krista and Manny began in September, when showbiz columnist Ricky Lo alleged that a known “ladies’ man" was seen on a flight to Hong Kong with a certain “Actress K." He later revealed that the two were Pacquiao and Krista, who claimed that the meeting was only a chance encounter.

“Yes it was … I have nothing to hide, I’m not guilty of anything," Krista was quoted as saying.

Pacquiao 'uncle' wanted for allegedly shooting neighbor dead

MANILA, Philippines - An uncle of Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao is now a subject of a police manhunt after allegedly shooting dead his neighbor in Polomolok, South Cotabato over the weekend.

Inspector Limuel Joseph Clarete, chief for operations of the Polomolok Municipal Police Station, said suspect Bernabito Dapidran allegedly shot dead Rogelio Poblador in front of his house in Barangay Sulit on Saturday night.

Reports said Dapidran is a brother of the boxing icon's mother, Dionesia Pacquiao.

Annie Poblador, the victim's wife, said her husband's killing stemmed from a simple argument about Dapidran's dogs.

She said that their family was on their way home when Dapidran's dogs barked at them. She said her son threw a rock at the dogs.

Mrs. Poblador said that Dapidran's son then picked up a rock and hit his son with it. She said that when her husband was about to retaliate, Dapidran fired at him.

The Poblador family immediately reported the incident to the police, but Dapidran was able to immediately slip out of his home. -- Report from Anne Santos, ABS-CBN Soksargen

In Pacquiao’s Corner, a ***********al Entourage
LOS ANGELES — The condominium looks like a fraternity house, not the resting place for boxing royalty. Stained carpets cover the floor. Dartboards hang from the wall. Bowls of food, half-eaten leftovers, line the kitchen.

Manny Pacquiao, one of the best boxers in the world, sleeps here. But he does not sleep alone.

Pacquiao does not do anything alone. His entourage — swollen, ***********al and, in his mind, necessary — makes sure of that. On a recent visit, while Pacquiao slept upstairs, one member did the laundry. Another surfed the Internet. Yet another sprawled on the couch, his booming snores interrupting another otherwise peaceful morning for Team Pacquiao.

“They’re all competing to be golden boy for the day,” said Freddie Roach, his trainer. “Clean his pool. Take his shoes off. They will do anything for Manny Pacquiao.”

Roach paused, unable to suppress his laughter.

“I’m telling you,” he continued, “the funniest thing is, whoever is on the best terms with Manny at that moment sleeps closest to him, at the foot of his bed.”

More than anything, they wait. They wait for Pacquiao to wake up, to eat, to spar, to sing, sign autographs, do interviews, act, shop.

Before one sparring session last month, members of the entourage arrived early, fetched towels, cleared the gym and debated what type of Gatorade their employer would prefer, finally settling on orange. When word came that Pacquiao was sleeping, that he might not practice, they waited, dozens of lives impacted by the whimsical decisions of one man.

Team Pacquiao has perfected the art of functional ***********. The entourage consists of trainers, assistants to the trainers, advisers, assistants to the advisers, cooks, dishwashers, car washers, drivers, publicists, gofers and security.

Its size varies, as do assignments and sleeping arrangements, members shuffling from bunk beds to twin beds to the foot of the most important bed. Usually, at least 20 aid in Pacquiao’s routines.

“I see new guys every day,” said Joe Ramos, an assistant. “Guys who I don’t even know who they are, or what they do.”

Pacquiao craves companionship, seeking comfort in numbers. He said he likes good company, which explains why he sleeps in the condo while the sprawling house he owns nearby sits mostly empty, leaves in the pool, ants in the kitchen.

Confidants believe this stems from his childhood, when he grew up so poor in the Philippines that his younger brother, Bobby, described each day as “survival mode.” The path to reclaimed youth includes all of the activities Pacquiao missed, like darts, billiards, basketball and marathon karaoke sessions.

Pacquiao tolerates little disrespect based on placement in his hierarchy, another policy produced by his upbringing.

He once sold doughnuts on the street. So when Ramos suggested they find less expensive alternatives for washing his car, noting that Pacquiao paid a man at Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif., where he trains, $200 three times a week, Pacquiao warned Ramos never to eliminate the job of someone trying to earn a living.

This leads to tasks that overlap, filled by people who perform the same function. Or people who perform essentially no function.

“There’s a lot going on,” said Rob Peters, the head of the security detail. “You have to know who everybody is, what they do. It’s almost like I need a chart.”

The entourage compares itself to a large family, but the daily competition for Pacquiao’s affection and power makes this brood competitive and intense. Winners receive perks, like riding in the car with Pacquiao, or sitting next to him while he eats.

They say they must fight to prove themselves, and while they do not mean this literally, sometimes fisticuffs occur. Recently in the Philippines, two members of Team Pacquiao, the adviser Michael Koncz and the conditioning coachAlex Ariza, came to blows over the coveted corner slots for Saturday’s welterweight title fight against Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Koncz said the fight was overblown and that he always operates with Pacquiao’s best interests at the forefront. Ariza said Koncz remains at the center of the team’s conflicts, whether attempting to have Roach fired, or failing to give credit to others, two charges Koncz dismissed.

During training, an unidentified culprit hung a sign inside the gym. It read: The meeting for the Mike Koncz Fan Club has been canceled. Roach claimed no knowledge of the sign’s source. But he was in no hurry to remove it.

“I don’t know if he’s socially maladjusted, or if it’s just an ineptness to socialize,” Ariza said of Koncz on Wednesday in Las Vegas. “I know it sounds funny, but I’m serious. He’s caused disarray.”

Roach added: “I know this: Alex doesn’t cut his meat for him. Mike Koncz does.”

Such is life in the strangest entourage in sports. For as complex as their interactions with one another are, each member of the entourage has his own relationship with Pacquiao. And he is the only man each answers to.

There is Buboy Fernandez, Pacquiao’s childhood friend, who worked as a janitor in Pacquiao’s first gym. Fernandez once handled the duties now performed by 15 men, like washing his boss’s socks, or holding a rice cooker near the vent in a hotel so staff could not smell food being prepared. His reward? His own room in the condo.

There is Koncz, who, despite the criticism, still holds significant sway, particularly in regard to Pacquiao’s finances. There is Peters, the security guard and Boston sports fan who must turn away families seeking autographs. There is Ramos, who handles tickets. He secured 500 for Saturday’s fight alone and still heard complaints from folks who wanted 30 instead of 29.

    The worst job?

“The cook,” Pacquiao said. “Because there are so many. He must cook a lot.”

What concerns Ariza are those who take advantage, the hangers-on who can pay for their own tickets but choose not to, who spend all day waiting to pitch Pacquiao their products, who receive something and still want more.

Sometimes Pacquiao sequesters himself inside his bedroom, waiting for the living room to clear. Most nights, Peters stops by to expedite the process.

“The downfall of Manny Pacquiao, if there is one, will be his kindness and generosity,” Koncz said. “At some point, I fear that’s going to catch up to him.”

On Tuesday in Las Vegas, Pacquiao conducted interviews inside a trailer. When he finished, someone grabbed a jacket and helped him put it on. Someone else stood at the bottom of the stairs, in case he fell. Someone else started the team bus, each seat filled.

Off they went, the ***********al entourage that still manages to function, the boxer surrounded by his staff.

Sleeping arrangements, at least for some, were still to be decided.

Manny Pacquiao may have his heart clouding his judgement

If you ask Freddie Roach, the long-time trainer of Manny Pacquiao, what his biggest fear is for the eight time champion he’ll tell you something that might surprise you.

In an interview done with the Guardian, Freddie Roach revealed that his biggest fear is that Manny is going to end up broke one day.

    Roach said:

That's my biggest fear with Manny. We talk about it all the time but I can't get it across to Manny. He's 32 and he can make his own decisions. But I keep telling him, and hoping, that he'll put away something for him and his family.

How Did You Score It? 50 of Boxing's Closest and Controversial Decisions

It’s a hard concept to understand considering Manny is the biggest draw in boxing and he, no doubt, receives the biggest payday’s to fight. However, Manny is as much a humanitarian and giver to his country of the Philippines as he is a boxer. With the endless amounts of money he gives to his country there is a wonder if he’ll have money down the road.

I don’t think it concerns Manny because I don’t think Manny has ever fought for the money. I don’t think he is worried about his retirement.

He fights for his country. It’s why he’s a hero there.

      Manny Pacquiao slams Divorce Bill
      By JULIEN MERCED C. MATABUENA

Pacman does not approve of the Divorce Bill
Pacman does not approve of the Divorce Bill

MANILA, Philippines – After the controversial Reproductive Health Bill, Saranggani Representative and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao once again voiced out his disapproval, this time of the proposed Divorce Bill.

“Ay, 'di ako agree diyan sa divorce. Hindi maganda 'yan,” Pacquiao told “Startalk TX” in a taped interview aired on June 11.

Like he did in defending his anti-RH stand, Pacquiao used the Bible to support his anti-divorce stance, “Nasa Bibliya na bawal iluwa 'yung nasubo mo na.”

“Napakalaking kasalanan din 'yan[g divorce],” he added.

To drive his point home, Pacquiao stressed, “Kapag ipinasa natin 'yan[g Divorce Bill] is parang tinuturuan natin 'yung mga tao na ‘maghiwalay na kayo,’ ganyan. Samantalang pwede pa namang pag-usapan 'yun na ibalik sa dati, gano'n.”

The eight division world boxing champion also reminded couples, “Kayo ay ikinasal. Hindi tayo sumumpa sa harap ng tao, sa harapan ng pari lang, kundi sumumpa ka sa harapan ng Panginoon.”

Meanwhile, Pacquiao recently withdrew the defamation charges he filed in 2009 against Oscar dela Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions after the company issued a public apology through dela Hoya and CEO Richard Schaefer.

Recall that dela Hoya and the company purported that Pacquiao takes performance-enhancement drugs.

“Mababaw lang naman 'yung kaligayahan ko eh. Ang hinihingi ko lang 'yung mag-apologize siya para hindi naman masama 'yung imahe ko na... ['yung] pangalan ko mabahiran ng dumi 'yung iniingatan kong pangalan sa boxing,” Pacquiao said.

When asked about President Noynoy Aquino’s love life, Pacman opined, “'Yun namang personal ng pangulo, huwag na nating pakialaman 'yun. Bigyan naman natin siya ng sariling desisyon niya na makapag-desisyon siya ng sarili niya.

“Kung tayo daw umibig tapos pagbabawalan tayong umibig, hindi magandang tingnan.”

In other news, Pacquiao recently bought a property in Forbes Park, Makati City. Said to be worth P388 million, Spot.ph reported on June 3 that the Pacquiaos’ new mansion is located in the upscale subdivision’s Cambridge Circle.

More from Spot.ph, the estimated 1,500-square meter property that allegedly has its own tennis court was the former home of Roque Tordesillas, a senior vice president for sales and business development for Marsh Philippines’ (an insurance brokerage company).

According to a separate report in Bombo Radyo on Monday, Pacquiao shared that having a property in Forbes was a dream come true for his wife, Jinkee.

The above report also asserted that only the Pacquiao family and their close friends are allowed to set foot inside the three-storey mansion. The Pacquiaos preportedly set the house blessing in August this year.

Rep. Manny Pacquiao Failed to do His Homework on the RH Bill
Added May 18, 2011, Under: Commentaries

        * Personal Trainers
        * Personal Trainer
        * Pilates
        * Swimming pool supply

He may be adored by the world of sports for his power, lightning-speed and superior boxing skills, but Pacquiao proved that no one has been given the best of both worlds.

Pound-for-pound king and Saranggani Representative Manny Pacquiao sided with the Catholic Church on the controversial issue on the Reproductive Health or RH Bill. Media has covered his visit and meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippine or CBCP as the boxing great becomes the newest face of the Catholic front against the said piece of legislation.

Unfortunately, the boxing superstar seemed clueless as to what he is fighting for though the bishops looked very much relieved that a “messiah” somewhat came to save their day. Or should I say, dismayed over the way Pacquiao defended them?

Manny Pacquiao during an interview said that he is supporting the anti-RH Bill movement because he believes that using contraceptives is against the law of God written in the Bible which says, “go forth and multiply.” Pacquiao argued that God did not say “go and just have one or two children.”

Looking at the way the revered boxing icon argue as regards the issue reveals that the lawmaker from Saranggani certainly failed to his homework; that is, reading first the piece of proposed legislation at the center of controversy at the Lower House of Congress.

Never was it mentioned in the proposed piece of legislation that the state will impose its will on the couple to limit their children to only two.

That was Rep. Pacquiao’s own straight power punch landing right into his face I guess.

The boxing champ was prodded even further by media after an article says that her wife Jinkee Pacquiao is using control pills to manage the growth of their family. To this, Manny Pacquiao said,

“You know, in reality, even if the RH (reproductive health) bill has not yet been passed, many people are already using condoms or (birth pills) so why do we still need to pass it when people are already using them?”

Pacquiao seemed lost in the issue. Unfortunately, this very same line of argumentation has also been used by many anti-RH Bill advocates.

The issue is not about availability but accessibility.

Remembering the debate on the controversial barangay ordinance passed by a posh subdivision, former Department of Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral said that it is not the problem of rich families of having lots of children, or buying pills or condoms, or having an UID, or mothers having regular check-ups at the best hospitals around town because they have the money to spend. Unfortunately, those who are living on shanties, squatter’s areas, far-flung barrios and the poorest of the poor communities cannot afford these things though empirical data from a good number of surveys reveal that these mothers and wives wanted to manage the growth of their family but restrained by financial concerns.

Therefore, the RH Bill makes all these things accessible to all couples to help them on managing their families, rich or poor. If the couple decided to have 1 or 2 children, the state will help them achieve this. If the couple decided to have 10 children because they can responsibly take care of the family, the state will help them achieve this. And if the couple decided to use natural or artificial family planning methods, that state will provide them what they need in order for the mother to get protected and the family to be responsibly managed.

With all these points that Rep. Pacquiao raised, Sen. Santiago could not help but ask the lawmaker to just shut up, and at one point even jokingly dared the boxing champ into a fist fight. She said,

“Huwag mo nang pasukan ito. E kung kaming mga senador, hindi kami pumapasok sa pagboxing pero kung gusto mo e pwede rin [Don’t get yourself involved in this anymore. We senators don’t engage into boxing but if you want, then we may].”

        She also lectured,

“May I just make a point of grammar please? The Bible does not say, ‘Go out to the world.’ It sounds very much like God is encouraging us to go out and copulate in public.

God said in the Bible, ‘Go forth and multiply.’ That meant that God wanted man, not necessarily to literally multiply, but to go out to work with the rest of the human beings of this planet and to apply the stewardship theory. Meaning to say, taking care of each other, who are all in the planet living together.”

Sen. Santiago really knows how to throw educated “punch lines” with precision.

If Pacquiao trains hard for 2 months or so for a fight inside the boxing ring, punishing himself just to be on the right condition; he should exactly do the same in Congress, in particular, before lecturing the people about the RH Bill. He should read first the bill primarily because he is a lawmaker, and second, in order present sound and logical arguments and spare himself from taking jabs that comes from his own fists.

The congress is not a boxing ring. Only sound and logical arguments are admissible and popularity and fame will never save you from shame.

I am personally pissed off with Pacquiao trying to drag and use his fame and the respect people give him as a boxing great into an issue that he cannot even put up a good defense for his stand.

He is everywhere – music, clothes, perfume, shoes, restaurants, gas station, television shows, fight against poverty, fight against corruption, fight against cancer, fight against illiteracy, fight for peace and unity, promotion of tourism, and all. These are good, but as they say, take only the battles that you are prepared and you can win, lest you will look foolish if you put yourself as the savior of everything.

If Pacquiao cannot prepare himself as a lawmaker (in particular in this issue of RH Bill) the way he trains hard for a fight, then he should just follow Sen. Santiago’s advice: Shut up!
