They're all ducking each other, waiting to be chosen by Wladimir.

Helenius is still working to gain experience, and Boytsov has had some injury problems, but the others have no excuse for being so idle. I'd like to see one of them fight Chagaev.

I'd love to see Boytsov fight Haye. When has Haye stepped into the ring with a guy who wants to tear his head off right from the opening bell?

After loosing a purse bid, Povetkin pulled out of December 2008 fight claiming that he suffered an ankle injury during the training (running in the woods and tripping over a tree root). If I’m not mistaken, he did provide medical files to confirm his injury.

It was a different story in 2010. Povetkin was forced to take a fight with Wlad or loose his #1 contender spot. First they could not agree on the money split and the fight went to a purse bid again. K2 won the bid and split the purse within accordance of WBO rules. Povetkin’s share was $2.1 mil (career high paycheck).
Povetkin’s team called a press conference and demanded an Olympic style drug test. K2 agreed.
Then Povetkin did not show up for the first pre fight press conference, claming that he was sick (however, was seen at Tua vs Barrett in NJ). Wlad held a pressed with a cardboard copy of Povetkin and gave him a black eye with a marker.
Shortly after the missed press conference, team-Povetkin missed the dead line for signing the contract. Khrunov (Povetkin’s manager) stated that they did not get enough free ring side tickets out of the deal and that’s why Povetkin is not going to sign “K2 slave contract” (we can only guess where they got that idea from). On the same day, Teddy stated that he pulled Povetking out of the fight because Sasha is not ready for Wlad.

That’s the background story on Wlad vs Povetkin makes the thread title so much funnier, does not it?

people can be idiots. it is clear that povetkin never ducked klitschko. it was others behind the scenes, such as teddy atlas, not wanting to send povetkin to the slaughter. the guy only has 21 fights total right now. you really think he's even ready for wlad now? let alone 3 years ago? it's not like he was "fast-tracked" or anything. he's a victim of a ****ty heavyweight division and of his own success (decent US TV exposure and decent wins). Povetkin wouldn't beat Haye, let alone Klitschko.

Depends what you mean by "ducked".

Dropping your mandatory challenger status because you feel you're not ready could be considered ducking by some.

Teddy Atlas is a goofball but I don't buy it for a second that an undefeated HW in his 30s has been engulfed in Teddy's mind control and told who he's allowed to fight.

Two possible reasons Povetkin finally decided he's ready:

              1. He's actually ready and has been trying out different techniques all this time with Wlad in his head

              2. He saw a chump like Haye getting a 50/50 contract and is gonna start talking **** in broken English until he gets the same thing. The Klitschkos were definitely not offering him the same kind of money Haye ended up getting.

lets hope it's #1, but its prob #2

True. The bottom line is, you cannot gain either respect or a payday, by sitting on the bench doing nothing. Everyone has to step up sometime, or else they will never achieve anything. He needs to fight, or else become an accountant so that he can look after someone elses money.

The WBA top 3 are Chagaev, Povetkin, and Boytsov. The three should fight amongst themselves, because those fights could be interesting.

The top 4 in the Ring Magazine ratings are the Klitschkos, Haye, and Adamek, so it is nice to see the four of them in fights against each other this summer.

Beyond that, the rankings are Povetkin, Chagaev, Chambers, Dimitrenko, Boytsov, Helenius, and Arreola. It's hard to make a case for any of them being ready to challenge Wladimir. What is Povetkin waiting for? He needs to step up and fight someone tough. Helenius would be a great choice.
oh ok...thanks for breaking that down for me...

                      povetkin = 10% chance

one thing about povetkin is that he only fights as hard as he needs to, if hes winning hell look kind of mediocre, if hes losing hell push himself and turn it into a win, i hope he waited till now because
I think its the other way, Haye=10 % and Povetkin almost 0%

Why? Because Povetkin has no defence, is not as fast as haye and will never be able to land anything. Haye at least landed some good shots and won some rounds. Povetkin will be KOed early.
