My take on Wlad vs Haye

I have been looking foward to this fight for a few years now and even though after watching the Valuev and Harrison fights i had come to the conclusion that it could be a bad style match up with no action it still had a massive buzz about it.

Everyone in the UK was talking about the fight and loads of my mates watched it but sadly this fight as i feared was poor, all my mates were texting me telling me it was crap some said they would not watch boxing again and that UFC is much better. Sadly not a great advert for boxing we really did need a good fight it didnt matter who won.

    Haye:

One of the problems for Haye was his basic technique, style and work rate he seemed unable to throw the double jab due to his poor footwork, his work rate as in the Valuev fight was awful. When he did throw the jab it landed at times but he just didn't throw enough and seemed to be content as in the Valuev fight to have a very low output and try and win each round with one or two power punches. Haye also had some success to the body but was unable to throw enough body punches to wear Wlad out. When he did charge forward with punches to the head because he hadn't jabbed to get inside he was far to out at range to land effectively, he did get in a good power shot every couple of rounds but that was never going to win him the fight. His upperbody movement was good enough to slip a fair number of Wlads jabs. Any punches that wlad landed didn't seem to bother him at all.

If Haye wants to continue he desperately needs a new trainer to improve his technique and a new conditioning coach.

    Wlad:

Wlad was as expected working behind the jab and trying to land the right hand. From the start of the fight Wlad took the centre of the ring and was pushing Haye back but at the same time was very defensive in nature. he was missing a lot of jabs enough were landing to build up the points and he was controlling the pace for the entire fight. His defence looked good and he was able to move back quickly to avoid most of what Haye had to offer. When Wlad did take some punches he seemed ok in general and even when he was slightly stunned in the 12th he was easily able to tie Haye up and recovered quickly.

Wlad's main problem seemed to be his inability to setup punches outside the jab, with Haye moving his head out the way of a lot of Wlads jabs it was difficult for Wlad to setup any of his other punches as everything for him comes of the jab, his lack of body punching and combinations while he had Haye on the ropes cost him the chance to land anything telling barring a few right hands on Haye.

I believe Wlad should keep doing what he's doing there's no need to change anything, although many fans and especially casual fans don't like his style Klitschko is very effective just rather bland.

my shorter summary of the fight; Wlad did what he always does, Haye did what most Wlad opponents do except fall over a lot more.

I dont know Wlad seem to strugle badly to land anything, normally the jab lands cleanly and wears his opponent down while taking little risk him self, but Haye seemed to be able to slip most of Wlads jabs and the rights that did land Haye moved his body to lessen the impact. Wlad was to quick at moving back for Haye to launch more than a few good lunging offences. All in all as another poster said they shut each other down but Wlads better jab was able to see him through.

To be honest - I'm surprised of David Haye, because he was in fact much better than I thought. He is a loudmouth, entertaining, but he goes too far for my taste, but in the ring he proved that he's a skilled fighter. Wladimir was only very rarely able to connect with his jab due to Haye's excellent movement and reflexes. I knew he's fast but I didn't know that he's that fast.

Respect to both fighters. Wlad did what he had to do without taking the risk to get knocked out by one of the "hayemakers". David is clever enough to know that his only chance was to avoid being hit as good as he can and then try to pounce on Wlad with his swingers every here and then. There's not much David Haye could make better in a possible re-fight, because he then needs to take more risks which is going to result in getting KTFO by Wlad.

i thought haye would win cuz i knew he could avoid the jab, but i completely neglected the head cuffing from wlad, it's no easy task to see, let alone hit your target when you've got a 50 pound heavier man pulling your head to his abdomen to then push his forearm down the back of your neck

wlad showed me that he's very beatable against a good fighter of his height, but also showed me he wont be beat for a good while because there is no one of his size

I was surprised how many of my friends (non-boxing fans) actually enjoyed the fight itself. There were no complaints afterwards, just dissapointment that there was no KO. But I didn't hear any ridiculous whining e.g 'Never watching boxing again'.

Yeah although i thought the fight was boring for large parts i sort of enjoyed it at the same time as i thought that someone might land a bomb. I have to admit i like watching by myself i cant stand listening to casual fans who dont know what there talking about.

Yeah I enjoyed it too, have to be honest. I was expecting that kind of fight anyway.

Actually, I forgot there was one complaint. I got a txt from my old man about half way through that just said '**** fight'.

I guess they don't make HW fights like they used to.
