Some thoughts on Wlad vs Haye

After watching the fight a second time, a I feel a little bit different about the fighters.

David Haye clearly waited too long for openings and was relying on one big shot to win, I don't think he fought like a *****, I just think he waited too long and his style simply didn't work against the bigger man with good defence.

Haye's style actually doesn't seem to be very good against taller opponents, It took him an age to put even Harrison on the floor because of how high he has to aim his punches against these guys, it's not a straight line to their chin, its up at an angle, and when the shots land they are not full power.

Haye did show a chin though tonight, he took hard punches off perhaps the hardest puncher in boxing and was ok after them.

Wladamir is clearly the best heavyweight around, he seems to have the total package these days and I don't see him losing for a long time now, he basically has the belts until he retires imo. Haye gave it his best go in my opinion, but just couldn't match him.

Obviously both sides are STILL giving abuse, but I'm not mad at either guy really, they were just doing their jobs.

The guy did the best he could, he just wasn't good enough. Yeah, he trash talked for a couple of years and I wanted him to lose because he said just an unbelievable amount of crap, but I understand the man, he knew that it was very hard to beat Wladimir, so he tried to make as much money as possible from this fight.

He tried his best, he wasn't KOd so that's a lot better than I thought he would be. He tried to do the same he did against Valuev, but Wlad is not Valuev. He moved around all night long and was hard to hit, and I give him credit for his chin, in fact he took some hard right hands from Wlad that had KO power. He just wasn't good enought, and as soon as he realized that he was not going to be able to survive if he tried to exchange punches with Wlad, he decided that it was better to run and survive the fight.

At the end the better man won, Wlad was just really superior and Haye couldn't cope with him. A lot of people keep bashing Wlad because he's boring, and yeah he's not really entertaining but he's a defensive master, he knows how to use his long jab and his height to his advantage, Haye was just able to land a couple of hard shots tonight against Wlad, while Wlad dominated him with that powerful jab and made Haye respect his power as soon as he got him with his right hand.

He wasn't waiting. Haye thought he could spend most of the rounds moving, and when he wanted, plant his feet and land the occasional big shot that would steal the round. Wlad's monster pace kept Haye from from ever setting anything up; he was in his face throwing punches non-stop. This is nothing new for Wlad's opponents; they have low work rates because Wlad doesn't let them work.

His chin was indeed excellent however. I think maybe people underrate both their chins, they're two of the biggest punches in boxing and neither of them were wobbled.

I really wouldn't mind seeing it again, personally. Haye should go to America and fight a few guys like Arreola or even Chagaev. Get some names on the record and his confidence back.

Wlad will keep taking care of business as usual. The division is so thin that I don't believe it's possible for them to not have a rematch if they both stay active in the sport.

I was unimpressed with both of them. Sure Haye might have been the best Wlad has faced since Byrd but he neither had the power or skill to get him out of there. Haye if was bigger might have presented problems but he is what he is, a good cruiserweight.
