Most of you guys were complaining about recent fights but you guys have to face the truth that this is not the 80's anymore. Last night I have watched George Foreman vs Ken Norton that KO was brutal. I have also watched Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello , Cesar Chavez "Living Legend !!!" vs Meldrick Taylor "brutal fight" oh my God Hagler,Hearns,Sugar Ray ,Duran . These Guys were warriors , these guys were not afraid to die. Mexicans ,Americans, Puerto Ricans and the people form Nicaragua can be proud of their fighters. I know what you guys are aiming at because you want to see fights like the 80's . But this was the golden area I do not think that this will come back. Look at Meldrick Taylor he paid a high price for the brutal fights with Cesar Chavez as a result todays fighters wont risk that much because at the end of the day it is about their health.
Boxing has changed !!!

You write like fights like Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler was exciting. The truth is that fight is so boring to watch. And you write like that wars don't happen a lot in today's boxing. We just saw knockout wins by Donaire and Rios early this year. The war of attrition between Berto and Ortiz. And the war of renewal for Morales against Maidana. You don't watch boxing for the excitement. You watch today's boxing just to criticize it.Most of you guys were complaining about recent fights but you guys have to face the truth that this is not the 80's anymore. No I do watch todays boxing for excitement but almost on every fight people starts to critisize. I thought the Morales vs Maidana was great but then again the PPV numbers were low. I did not say wars did not happen I said people always expect wars like the 80's but that cannot be always the case. You write like fights like Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler was exciting. People like to cling on to the past, Most of Ali's fights were snoozefests.
Blame the ERA all you want but Wlad makes everyone look like a bum, if Wlad wasnt fighting you guys would be like OMG DAVID HAYE IS DA BEST.
Its not the Era, its how dominant the brothers are. Their records and KO % speak for themselves.Comment

The way some people see boxing these days, a lot of them would have seen Leonard-Benitez as a boring fight. The problem is not the sport but it's spectators who think they will see a WWE event. This is why EFC is taking a climb in interest, because it resembles more WWE.
Plenty of good fights have come and passed. Just like in the 70s-80s-90sComment

Most fighters today are smarter than the ones in the past who used to kill themselves in the ring to help make mostly other people rich. Guys like Haye, Mayweather put their own well-being before anything else and have become experts at exploiting hype to make the most they can taking the least risk to their health. Fair play to them, boxing is a business. But fights like today just make me appreciate guys like Pacquiao, Gatti, Margarito, who fight to entertain the fans firstly and you get the sense they have so much pride they'd be willing to die in the ring. Funny thing is, these guys get/got as much hate as anyone, so boxers can never win with haters, which kind of validates the Haye/Mayweather philosophy, why take risks with their lives and livelihoods for a bunch of haters who never be satisfied?Comment

I did not even talked about the Haye fight but I thought it was entertaining. This was the second biggest fight that could be made and I enjoyed the fight.People like to cling on to the past, Most of Ali's fights were snoozefests.

you hit it dead center, buddy.....Most fighters today are smarter than the ones in the past who used to kill themselves in the ring to help make mostly other people rich. boxers/fighters go out and climb the ring to earn their keeps and fame and win adoration of boxing fans...who are for or against them.....
boxers change as boxing itself has gone a lot of changes...from the previous 15+ rounds of years gone by to the improvements in the rules and boxers health/welfare management...Comment

The Erik Morales vs Marcos Maidana should have done a better PPV numbers but the overall feeling for that fight was negative. And it didn't help that GBP did a piss poor job at hyping or promoting the fight. Also, as an Erik Morales fan I felt that it was a risky fight for him and that Maidana would surely knock him out to retirement. I didn't buy the PPV because I didn't want to watch my favorite fighter knockout. You can read my comments here in Boxing Scene how I stood against it. And that, HBO and GBP didn't do much to counter such opinions so that is why the PPV numbers did so badly. No I do watch todays boxing for excitement but almost on every fight people starts to critisize. I thought the Morales vs Maidana was great but then again the PPV numbers were low. I did not say wars did not happen I said people always expect wars like the 80's but that cannot be always the case.
I also think that Haye vs Wlad was a good fight. I expected Wlad to fight like he usually does which is think through it, feel with his jab, and then at the later rounds throw short combinations to win the fight. Haye fought differently today since he hyped the fight and made a lot of promises then his fight planned and fighting technique changed. Haye isn't an aggressive fighter look at his past matches he likes to hit and run his opponents (catch them with bombs/haymakers then pummels them) but since he promised Wlad he won't run away then his game plan changed.
The fight was exciting and now there are only two Heavyweight champions Vitali and Wlad. Also, I honestly believe Mike Tyson doesn't stand a chance against either Vitali and Wlad. Tyson had troubles fighting taller men. Look at his fights against fighters who were taller than him Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and Buster Douglas were all taller men who were once ranked Top 5 and above in the Heavyweight division. Yes, even Buster Douglas was ranked Top 5 way before fighting Mike Tyson in the Heavyweight division by the alphabet soup organizations and the Ring Magazine.
Muhammad Ali fought a lot of tomato cans and some were not even ranked. I feel that Ali got a title shot just because he was Ali. Bob Arum and Don King bought/stole those title shots away from other deserving boxers of that era. At least, in today's era of boxing it somewhat fair because we have the internet and we know are the best out there from Asia, Europe, Africa, to the American continents. We know that Sergio Martinez could become a great Middleweight fighter if he just fights a Top 10 Middleweight fighter. The Super Middleweight tournament of Showtime brought fighters from all over the world so that the true Champion of that division can be called forth.
I think today's boxing is a little bit fair. WBC organization is a crooked organization when it comes to Mexican fighters they get belts so easy. Look at how many champions they are stripping just so their Mexican boxers can get a belt. Sulaiman is doing a lot of evil things so that a Mexican boxer can say he is a 4 time division champion. Anyway, these are just my thoughts of today's boxing.
