Roy Jones Jr. Final Thoughts everyone. Yes i know there are similar threads.

Despite his third straight loss, Roy Jones Jr. says he still wants to fight. Jones said, “I’ll be back, can’t nobody else beat me but Tarver.”

Well, not exactly. Glen Johnson put Roy to sleep also. I can see where Roy doesn’t remember that fight taking place, but trust me, it did. Roy, you’ve lost your last three fights badly and you want to come back? For who Roy? For what? You don’t need the money and you can’t replace the brain cells you’re killing.

Even Evander Holyfield thinks you’re holding on too long. Fact is, the more you fight, the more damage you do to your legacy. The longer you stick around, the more it seems you were never as good as we all thought you were. Sure, you were slick as hell, impossible to hit, and did things in the ring that you just can’t teach. But who did you really fight? Now we know why you never took chances, why you fought cops and tomato cans. You’ve been exposed, quit while you’re behind. When most fight fans think you lost the first three, no one wants to see a fourth fight with Tarver

Good post. However I disagree with the section regarding Evander Holyfield. The way I view fighter's legacies is based on their wins and not their losses.

Take for instance a guy like Emmanuel Burton....he has a host of losses. Granted alot of them are robberies, I am hesitant to say that "hurts his legacy" per say.

Other great examples might have been Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake Lamotta both.

Oh and BTW: that "Who did you fight" is wrong. RJJ fought plenty of excellent fighters.

During his prime, Roy was untouchable. He *may* have dodged fighters due to their power, but at the time none of us knew he had a questionable chin because he DIDN'T GET HIT.

He was the most entertaining fighter of the past 15 years, and took boxing to a more mainstream audience. If it wouldn't have been for Roy Jones, Jr., I probably wouldn't be on this website.

He was probably the best athlete in boxing that I've ever seen, and that in itself speaks volumes.

He had power in both hands, reflexes that are untouchable and a personality that like him or hate him, you watched him. Much like Ali.

It's time for him to hang the gloves up, however anyone who appreciates boxing and the athleticism it involves, will miss him.

          Mike McCallum 40 years old

Virgil Hill 34 years old on the way down

David Telesco only had one fight of an significance before the jones fight

Erik Harding 20th fight of career, vs number 43 for roy, big difference

Julio Gonzales first big opponent he ever fought

Glen Kelley also lost to paul briggs and david haye

clinton woods just check his fight record and look who he fought, what type of fighter fights guys with 11 - 38 records when they are already at 30 wins themselves

Ok. By your logic that means Jones "Exposed" them even at their old age.

you stated in your first post that basically age doesnt matter.

no he exposed them as being their age. Its not like these guys were serious contenders.

I dont really get how i said age doesnt matter.

Roy Jones Jr. made history when he won the Heavyweight title against John Ruiz. He's the second man in decades who moved from middleweight all the way to heavyweight and win a title, I think no matter what he does, people will know about Roy Jones.

Wrong on several points. Hill was not old at 34 at all, and went on to win titles in higher weight-classes.

Harding was number one ranked and for a reason with wins over Montell Griffin. Harding was very good and proved his skill vs Tarver and Griffin and gave Roy some trouble even.

Kelley lost to Briggs because he was shot. Plain and simple.

Woods has turned out to be a damned good fighter with close fights vs Johnson and a spirited performance vs Roy.
