Comments Thread For: Humberto Soto Vacates WBC Title, Moving Up To 140

Mexico's Humberto "Zorrita" Soto has officially vacated his lightweight world title of the World Boxing Council (WBC). Last week, BoxingScene.com had reported the strong possibility that Soto was going to leave the lighweight division to pursue the big names at 140-pounds. Soto notified the WBC that he plans to move up to 140 in his next fight and the lightweight division is a thing of the past. Soto made his fourth and final defense of the title on June 25, when he decisioned Japanese boxer Motoki Sasaki.

He wants a pay day with Morales for a Daimond WBC belt?

after one tough fight against Antillon he moves up...c'mon, I'd have loved to see him fight Bam Bam Rios.

Soto has been wanting to fight Pacman since 2006.
Soto has also been wanting to fight Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Valero since 2007, and they all DUCKED him.

So, its OK for Pac, JMM, MAB, EM to move up to 140-147lbs, but its not OK for Soto to move up.

Soto has said since last year, that he plans to move up to 140lbs.

Why should Soto fight Rios if Rios isnt the mandatory.
Soto had to work and earn his way to the #1 ranked mandatory challenger posistion before he could fight for a world title, and now he is making Rios earn the right to fight him, by going through gatekeepers like Antillon.

He's making Rios "earn his stripes" just like Soto had to earn his years ago.

        No "shortcuts" for Rios.
Rios needs to earn his shot, and not "cut corners" to the WBC title, because the WBC is the most congested and has more world class contenders than the WBA, IBF, WBS, etc.

Rios just wanted a "shortcut" to Soto's title without having to go through the "batlle trenches" and getting battle-tested.

Hell yeah. I always liked Soto's style. Never really paid much attention to his personality or outside the ring. Never even heard him talk to be honest.

Anyways, the 140 division just got some added talent. Zorrita will be ready to box some ears and crack some skulls.

Soto never lost at 130lbs and never lost @135lbs, so what makes you think he would "lose" @140lbs.

Soto was robbed against Guzman and Lorenzo at 130lbs, so he never really lost at that weight. Guzman shouldve been Disqualified for intentionally low blowing SOto in the 3rd round, and Lorenzo should have also been Disqualified for refusing to fight Soto and faking an injury.

We'll see if Tim Bradley, Amir Khan, Maidana, Morales all dont chicken out and duck Soto.
